Nehru Science Center : Episode 2 : Meet the Great Indian Scientists.

The Nehru Science Centre in Worli, Mumbai, isn't just a haven for interactive exhibits and scientific exploration. It also houses a collection of statues honoring prominent Indian figures in the realm of science and technology. These statues stand as a testament to the rich history of Indian scientific contributions and serve as an inspiration for future generations. Stepping into the Nehru Science Center is like stepping into a constellation of Indian scientific brilliance. As you gaze upon the bronze forms of iconic figures, a kaleidoscope of emotions washes over you.

Hon. Vikram Ambalal Sarabhai
Bronze dreamer, eyes toward the stars,
Vikram Sarabhai, where science sparks,
India's spaceflight, on his shoulders soared.

Vikram Sarabhai Sir was a visionary scientist who played a pivotal role in shaping India's space program. He founded the Indian National Committee for Space Research (INCOSPAR) in 1962, which later became the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). He also established the Thumba Equatorial Rocket Launching Station, India's first spaceport. Sarabhai's unwavering dedication and leadership laid the foundation for India's remarkable achievements in space exploration. The statue at Nehru Science Center is a fitting tribute to Sarabhai's legacy. It serves as a reminder of his immense contributions to Indian science and inspires future generations to reach for the stars.

Hon. Homi Jegangir Bhabha:

Nuclear dreams, in bronze enshrined,

Homi Bhabha, where science entwined.

India's atom, his vision did ignite.

Homi Bhabha Sir was a visionary physicist who is considered the father of India's nuclear program. He played a key role in establishing the Atomic Energy Commission of India and several key research institutions. Bhabha's dedication to scientific research and development helped India achieve self-sufficiency in nuclear technology and laid the foundation for its nuclear energy program. The statue at Nehru Science Center is a fitting tribute to Bhabha's legacy. It serves as a reminder of his immense contributions to Indian science and inspires future generations to pursue their scientific dreams.

Hon. Satyendra Nath Bose:

Quantum whispers, in bronze enshrined,

Satyendra Bose, where science entwined.

India's particles, his mind did define.

These lines capture the essence of Satyendra Nath Bose Sir's contributions to science, drawing a connection between his groundbreaking work on quantum mechanics and his place of honour at the Nehru Science Center. They also evoke the mystery and wonder of the quantum world, which he helped to illuminate.

Hon. Meghnad Saha:

Stellar whispers, in bronze enshrined,

Meghnad Saha, where science entwined.

India's stars, his equations defined.

These lines highlight Meghnad Saha Sir's pioneering work in astrophysics, particularly his development of the Saha ionization equation, which revolutionized our understanding of stellar spectra and composition. The image of his statue at the Nehru Science Center adds a visual element to the tribute, solidifying his place among India's most influential scientists.

Hon. Birbal Sahani:

Stone gardens unveiled, in bronze enshrined,

Birbal Sahni, where nature entwined.

India's ancient ferns, his touch defined.

These lines capture Birbal Sahni Sir's dedication to unraveling the secrets of India's past, specifically the plant life that thrived millions of years ago. The reference to "stone gardens" alludes to fossilised remnants, and the image of his statue at Nehru Science Center adds a visual element to his legacy.

Hon. Chandrasekhara Venkat Raman:

Raman's prism, a rainbow unfurled,

Nehru's science shrine, his story world.

India's Nobel, in colors unsealed.

These lines capture the essence of Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman Sir's groundbreaking discovery of the Raman effect, where light interacts with molecules and changes its color. The image of his statue at Nehru Science Center bathed in a spectrum of colors adds a visual representation of his work.

Hon. Srinivasa Ramanujan:

Numbers Whispered, in Bronze Enshrined,

Ramanujan's genius, where patterns entwined. India's prodigy, his equations defined.

These lines capture the essence of Srinivasa Ramanujan Sir's extraordinary mathematical talent, his ability to discern hidden patterns and relationships in numbers. The image of his statue at Nehru Science Center serves as a powerful reminder of his lasting impact on the world of mathematics.

Hon. Acharya Jagdish Chandra Bose:

Plant Whispers, in Bronze Enshrined,

Jagdish Bose, where life entwined.

India's pioneer, his circuits defined.

These lines capture Jagdish Chandra Bose Sir's pioneering work in plant physiology, where he used innovative instruments to detect and measure electrical responses in plants, challenging the notion that they were passive beings. The image of his statue at Nehru Science Center adds a visual representation of his dedication to understanding the hidden life of plants.

The Nehru Science Center, with its pantheon of bronze heroes, is not just a museum; it's a portal to a universe of possibilities, a testament to the human spirit's relentless pursuit of knowledge and a powerful catalyst for igniting scientific dreams in generations to come.
