Tip: Navigating topics with many replies

How not to get lost on long pages

All the replies under a topic are in chronological order.

When someone replies to an earlier reply further up in the post, the context might get lost or difficult to understand. This would not be a problem if answers were threaded and shown indented just below what the second reply is responding to.

It is not possible to switch from chronological to threaded mode on Connect.

But there are two helpful features to help you out.

Show the replies to this reply

Under each reply with further replies, the number of further replies is indicated, as seen in this screenshot:
Screenshot showing the Reply icon and the text '2 replies'

If you tap/click this, then the relevant replies will be shown indented just below to help your understand the context.

Notice the Jump to post links. They will take you back to the chronological order.

Show what this reply is a reply to

Similarly, when you read a reply and don’t immediately get the context, then you can just tap/click on the reply arrow or the username in the top right corner to see the context.

In this example @Kumaarsantosh replied to me. After hitting the bend reply arrow or my username, this shows up and makes it easy to follow the conversation:

This helps you follow the discussion. Notice the Jump to post-link.

I hope you find this nerdy tip helpful.
