I recently posted a trilogy of topics each one including 2 or 3 photos and a poll inviting Local Guides to vote on which of the presented photos has the most views and to explain their reasoning why. A slight twist in the last topic was that Local Guides were asked to guess the finishing order of the 3 photos in terms of views. The subject of all photos was an ALDI supermarket in a suburb of Melbourne, Australia.

Topic #1
The first topic which you can see Poll #1 here, contains two storefront photos of the ALDI supermarket. The first photo is a straight on shot of the storefront and the second was a shot taken at an angle. Both photos were taken at night and uploaded onto Maps at approximately the same time.

Topic #2
The second topic (see Poll #2 here) also includes two photos of the ALDI supermarket but in this case both photos are straight on shots of the supermarket’s storefront, the first taken at night and the second during the day. Once again both photos were uploaded onto Maps at approximately the same time. The first photo in this case is the same first photo included in Topic #1.

Topic #3
In the final topic of this trilogy (see Poll #3 here), each of the 3 different photos included in topics #1 and #2 were included so we had two photos taken at night and one day time photo, and of these two were straight on shots and one was taken at an angle. As mentioned above, as a final twist, in this last topic Local Guides were also asked to guess the finishing order of the 3 photos in terms of views.

The purpose of this post (currently a placeholder) is to present a final summary of the voting and present a final discussion on the three polls. Once the polls are closed, you will You can see the final results of each of the respective polls and a summary of the voting in the table below.

2 - The twist!

Aside of the reasons why you voted as you did in each of the 3 individual polls, in the summary table above you will see that there are 4 parts to the overall voting and as well as selecting which photo you thought would have the most views in each of the 3 independent polls, as a final twist, in Poll #3 you were also asked to nominate the finishing order in which you thought the 3 photos would come in. If you haven’t done this yet, then if you nominate the finishing order in the second Poll here before the final results are posted, you will be included in this part of the voting. Jump in quick and let’s see how good you are! However, please don’t leave it too late as there are many anxious Local Guides waiting with baited breath to see the final results!

Summary of Key Points

Using the photo labels in Poll #3:

  1. None of the photos were edited prior to uploading onto Maps!
  2. Of the 3 photos, Photos A and C are taken square on the supermarket’s storefront and shot from the carparking area the very front of the store .
  3. One photo, Photo B was taken at an angle to the storefront and at night, just before the supermarket’s closing time.
  4. Of the 2 photos taken square on the storefront, Photo C was taken early in the day and the Photo A at night, at the same time Photo A (the angle photo) was taken.
  5. All 3 photos clearly show the signage including the supermarket’s logo and name, the store’s entrance, and the shopping trolley collection areas.
  6. It cold be argued that Photo B clearly shows the signage including the supermarket’s logo and name twice.
  7. While the main sign including the supermarket’s logo and name in Photo C is larger than that in the other 2 photos, the main sign is approximately at the same height in each photo :wink:
  8. Each photo shows shopper’s at the store’s front but no faces are visible.
  9. All photos include vehicles but only Photo B fully shows an auto’s licence plate!

@AdamGT,

CORRECTION: Didn’t see the photo labels, assumed that the top photo would be A, but is labeled as C, so I’m changing my vote to C (The TOP photo)

Where do I vote here? I used the links provided in the first 2 scenarios, voted, and commented. APOLOGIES for not seeing this line of posts previously. Photographing business fronts was a specialty for me for 6-7 months back in 2023. I submitted 3 photos of each storefront, and let Google decide which was best, before deleting the ones that didn’t get traction. There’s really NO WAY to determine which will win, and is why I used that method of submission. Everyone wins using that method, one just has to remember to delete what didn’t stick…as nobody really needs to see more than 1 or 2 storefronts when trying to locate it during travels.

If this serves as my vote, I’ll vote for C (Edited, see above). I would have probably cropped out the autos in all circumstances, and changed the contrast (along with a couple other settings) so that the clouds would POP.

@PrasadVR @StevenBerlin if you voted on all three polls, the only other thing you needed to do on #03 is state the overall order in which you think the three photos would be, highest to lowest views. You don’t need to do anything on this #04 page. That’s how I understand it.

Almost 1:00 am on Monday for @AdamGT now, so I guess no Sunday declaration of the final results after all.

Ok, this is my last posting on this for better or worse lol. I voted on all 3 polls. As for my order, its A then B, then C. I like C the worst. I don’t believe the AI cares about night or day. A is sharper than B. I thought about the signs, and even tho very small A has the most. My final answer. My final post on the quiz. Hehe

@tony_b , might there be others that thought that the TOP photo was A and not C? I read through @AdamGT 's post this morning, and went back to this page, and JUST NOTICED the fine print, indicating that the photo labels are out of ‘instinctual’ order.

No. The collage on this #04 page is not relevant to the exercise. The third round of voting takes place on #03 where we’d be guided by the order in which they’re listed there.

Once again I apologise for any confusion and I have tried to make good now @StevenBerlin. Just make sure you read the cover post in this topic and check that you have voted in the 2 polls there. There are 4 polls in total and 2 of these are in this topic. I hope it is all clear now.
