Namaste, Local Guide!
As we celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3rd, I want to share information about an important location in New Delhi India Gate . This site attracts both locals and tourists from around the world. Recently, our connect moderator @nareshdarji conducted a meet-up here, you can find the link to that event. The following morning, I visited the monument to check its accessibility.
What I found here is this place is accessible totally .
India Gate is a war memorial, formerly known as the All-India War Memorial. It was built in remembrance of those who lost their lives in World War I between 1914 and 1921 in various parts of the world.
Approximately 75,000 soldiers from the Indian army lost their lives in this war, making this monument a tribute to their sacrifice for their motherland. After ten years from the laying of its foundation, this monument was inaugurated by Lord Irwin, Viceroy of India, on February 12, 1931.
The arch was designed by Sir Edwin Landseer Lutyens. On the walls of this memorial, the names of the soldiers are inscribed to honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the country. This monument serves as a reminder to future generations about the importance of fighting for and protecting their nation, showcasing the pride of bravery and duty.
I explored the area to assess the accessibility of this historical site, ensuring that everyone can visit comfortably. The location is fully accessible from the south underpass and can be easily reached by everyone.
In front of this memorial, a statue of our freedom fighter Subhas Chandra Bose stands in remembrance of his contributions. Additionally, the Republic Day parade on January 26 passes through “Kartavya Path,” which is also accessible.
