I will do my best to highlight Beaumont Hospital in Taylor. This hospital is only 5 minutes away from where I live by car. You can check their website [here].

One of their services that I would like to highlight is their department for speech or language photology and audiology. There is more than just a hospital: Emergency Care is open 24/7, orthopedic surgery, mental health services, a pain management clinic, physical medicine, and inpatient rehabilitation and full-service radiology with advanced CT and MRI.

It originally opened its doors in 1977 and became part of Beaumont Health in September 2014. This hospital is very accessible for PwPds, the wheelchair is available upon request. Parking for disabled people and expectant mothers is close to the building.

Their speech and language pathology programs are considered the largest and the most extensive in the country.

Do you know that their department has over 60 speech and language pathologists for patients with communication disabilities to achieve their communication goals who work in their acute care, outpatient rehab and conduct, and inpatient rehab? They provide the service for adults, adolescents, and children who have a loss of communication.

“To best serve you, our services are divided into:

Adult Services

Our programs deal with communication disorders resulting from brain injury, voice problems, swallowing disorders, or oral motor dysfunction.

Adolescent Services

Our Program is designed to treat the needs of pre-teens through young adults who are experiencing communication difficulties.

Pediatric Services

We use advanced techniques to help achieve maximum communication capability, functional capacity, and social potential.”

The hospital locations also varied per your need.

If you know of any accessible health clinic or hospital in your area or you have happened to experience such a clinic or hospital treatment please share your experience with us.

I’d definitely consider this aspect of accessibility an overlooked one, especially considering how many times I’ve been at hospitals and have seen communication breakdowns that could have been aided much more properly. Great share, @Erna_LaBeau .

Thank you for sharing. We may not know this but hospitals need to be more inclusive and not special. How those emergencies handle issues with PwDs? How can a PwD reach out to or communicate with medics during emergencies. how many PwDs are employed as doctors and nurses?

We need to take action.

Thank you @SP31 indeed I agree with you. I was so surprised to find out one of their nitch is speech or language pathology.
