Afternoon walk around the Panmure Basin

The Panmure Basin is located in the heart of Panmure right next to Mt Wellington in Auckland.

The path is about 3km looping the basin. It’s very popular with the locals.

This is a fun family walk along the water - you can have kids on the scooter or pram, or bikes. The path is generally flat. However the dog must be on a leash and they are not allowed to go to the playgrounds.

Car parking is on Peterson Road, Lagoon Drive, Ireland Road or Cove Lane. The path is also handy to the Panmure Train Station. You can join the path at any point.

Lagoon Pool & Leisure Centre is located on Lagoon Drive. They have indoor and outdoor pools, plus a hydro slide which operates on weekends. Children 16 and under swim free.

There are three playgrounds along the path, which are bound to keep the kids entertained.

This is also a fitness trail with 12 stations. You can also continue to Mt Wellington and climb to the summit. Exit the path via Cleary Road and head towards Maungarei, this will add an extra 30 minutes onto the walk.

The north-western side of the basin is home to the Panmure Lagoon Sailing Club. If you head along on the weekend, you might spot some of the sailors training on the water.

The Waipuna Miniature Railway (run by AUCKLAND SOCIETY of MODEL ENGINEERS INCORPORATED) is located at Peterson Reserve, alongside the Panmure Basin and is open for public train rides every Sunday afternoon from 1.00 – 4.00 pm (weather permitting). You will walk past it.

The ducks, garnets and shags are local residents. According to Bird Rescue, the shag colony here is a handful of its kinds - one of few based in the urban area in the world.

The last photo is the local scouts volunteered to clean the path by collecting the litters. My son was one of them.

Great @OliverKIWI , I hope you share photos.

No haven’t watched many videos recently due to work commitments. I’ve got two more weeks in Qatar before moving to Czech Republic. I’ll be enjoying my break from work for a while. I hope to take many nice summer photos. Maybe end of year my wife and I will return to NZ.
