Browser Search for Local Guides

My browser has a new URL when I search for Local Guides. See copied and pasted content below:

Local Guides - Google Mapshttps://maps.google.com › localguides

Local Guides help millions worldwide discover new places by sharing local knowledge and experiences. Everyone can contribute.

Besides the description being incorrect format,
What is the purpose of this additional URL outside of localguidesconnect.com?

@TiffanyStockstill You’re talking about this URL right?

https://maps.google.com/localguides/

This has always been the landing page for Local Guides. Those that aren’t yet a Local Guide can click on ‘Get Started’ and get signed up to be a Local Guide. If you’re already one, you’ll just get a message saying ‘You’re already a Local Guide’

Other than that it’s just meant to serve a start for non Local Guides to learn what the program is all about.

Thanks @iyudhi

It’s confusing because it is contradictive to Google’s Spam Policies (1) listed under their recent December updates.(2)

It makes sense though, that their own update is altering search engine results for URL.

@TiffanyStockstill Local Guides is part of the same Google division (for want of a better word) that Local Guides belongs to. The two go hand in hand and share leadership.

The link you shared isn’t spam as @iyudhi says it has been the head page for Local Guides since long before Connect existed.
