Hy local guides,
Today ( 23rd, September 2024 ) is International Day of Sign Languages (IDSL). This week ( 23rd - 29th) is known as International Week of Deaf People (IWDP). This day is to promote the rights of Deaf Community worldwide. This day is established by the World Federation of the Deaf in 2018.
Theme for 2024 : “Sign up for Sign Language Rights”.
What this day aims for:
- Promotes rights for Deaf community.
- Raise awareness about Sign Languages and Deaf culture.
- Give important and equal access for deaf community in education and employment services.
How I think businesses helps in this day:
- Put sign boards on the menu and other accommodaties they provide.
- Some of the businesses/shops I visited let us order through their online website.
- They give employment to various communities like Deaf, people who know sign language and various languages, etc…
Comment down your thoughts about this day and how it helps Deaf community in Google Maps.

Hello @Rahul001 , Thanks for the post to bring awareness of the importance of sign language. I would like to share here the Indian Sign Language Pledge “I solemnly take a pledge to learn and promote the use of Indian Sign Language with family and community for making the environment and education accessible for the deaf.”

Thank you for bringing attention to the International Day of Sign Languages @Rahul001
It’s so important to promote inclusion for the Deaf and every form of community.
I visited the Astitva School in Dombivli, which is for specially-abled kids. The way they communicate using sign language is beautiful.

This is an amazing step up @Rahul001 . Thanks for bringing out this post.
Last week, I had the chance of meeting the active participants of Paralympics 2024 in a restaurant. They were there for dinner. I also took a photo with them. There were atleast 5 people using sign language.
Selfie taken by me with the participants of Paralympics 2024. Sorry the picture has not come out well.
My husband too got a chance to participate in the Paralyimpics in wheelchair fencing. Couldn’t go that time. I very much appreciate your efforts for bringing this awareness.

Very dear @Rahul001 ,
I believe that you are aware that I am also a partially deaf person though I can manage myself with different electronic hearing supports…
It is a great gesture for the public to be aware about the difficulties of hearing impaired people.
Thank you very much for tagging me…
Due to family commitments and travel and unable to support you properly - kindly pardon me.
Regards with greetings
