Celebrate World Toilet Day With Me

Hy Local Guides,

Today is viewed as World Toilet Day (November 19). This day is to raise awareness for the importance of Sanitation , Hygiene and Access to Safe toilets. Today is also the last day of Transgender awareness week which has importances linked to gender-neutral toilets/bathrooms.

Types of toilets/bathrooms

  • Men’s bathroom
  • Women’s bathroom
  • Gender-Neutral bathrooms
  • Wheelchair Accessible Bathrooms
  • Eco-friendly Bathrooms (which is wheelchair accessible and can be used by any gender or non-gender person)

Aim of this day

  • Promote sanitation and hygiene of toilets.
  • Promote and improve safe access to toilets and bathrooms.
  • Address toilet related inequalities.

Types of bathrooms found in Kerala Arts & Crafts Village

Gender neutral bathroom found in Eve’s Coffee.

Sustainability

How sustainable we can be in our life is a question we as individuals and as a community faces. Nowadays, sustainable/eco-friendly toilets are coming up.

Key features of these toilets are:

  • Mostly use solar energy.
  • Use biodegradable tissues/papers.
  • Had a handwashing sink which is connected to the flush of the toilet.

How Google Maps Helps

When you go to the “About” section of a business/shop in maps, you can find “Accessibility”. There, you can find whether the business is providing wheelchair accessible toilets or not.

Also like how, when you go to “About” section and find “Amenities” section, you can find whether the business/shop provides Toilets and gender neutral toilets or not.

How you can help

  • Include toilet facility details in your reviews.
  • Include whether the business has wheelchair accessible toilets and gender-neutral toilets/bathrooms in the review. ( You can also include icons like :wheelchair: )
  • Include :restroom: in the review with the toilet details you writes.

Say how you help in Google Maps on this day and Comment down your thoughts and views.
