Celebrating 10 Years of Local Guides mapping the world, together

10 years already, @TiffanyBnyc
I joined the program in 2016, and I discovered Connect on the same year. I wanted to help the people involved in the Earthquake in central Italy, and I did it, thanks to the Local Guides Volunteer day 2016.
We arrived in Norcia with a van full of food and warm clothes. We met amazing Local Guides in there, like @manulele81 . In the following years we held a huge amount of meet-ups in the area, to update the maps, help the local population and businesses, to keep the attention on the problem alive.

2017 was the year in which we continued to work as Local Guides in the earthquake area.
it was such a significant work that Google wanted to tell it with a video

Some of the local guides we met back then are now friends with whom we often speak and collaborate together.

During one of the meet-ups I found a path at 1600 meters above sea level, completely accessible by wheelchair. From there Accessible Life was born
2017 was also many other things, for example “the best summit ever”, where I was able to meet Local Guides from all over the world, and above all my friendship with my “partner in crime” @KarenVChin was born. Here her version of the story: My San Francisco: Being a Local Guide for Another Local Guide
For more story of friendship during the Summit, the index of the series is here: LGsummit2017 - A local Local Guide guiding Local Guides [index] - #2 by ErmesT
2017 was also the year of the first wine meet-up. [Recap] Treviso Wine Meetup - November 25, 2017. We had Local Guides coming from other countries, and from there we started to think with @TorM about the first European Meet-up

2018 started with Local Guides Clean The World - A Local Guides project - #2 by ErmesT, and yes, this year it will be active again to celebrate the Earth Day with a worldwide “call to action” Earth Day 2025 Worldwide Meet-up - #LocalGuidesClean The World - Our Power, Our Planet™
The first Connect Live was for me an incredible experience, and I had the possibility to talk with an incredible Googler, @sashabg77 who literally helped me to change my approach to Accessibility. It took another year for Google Earth to make it possible to create projects. That’s when I was able to make Accessible Life real.
2019 was for me a year of “consolidation” of previous programs. And when everything was ready to start, 2020 arrived, with Covid and having to completely change the way of approaching the Community and everyday life.
Community Live started by @AdrianLunsong was an amazing moment, but the funniest part for us was the organization, a huge “behind the scenes” work with video calls that united opposite sides of the planet. I still remember a very funny one with @PennyChristie.

2021 was the second year of lock down. We had become accustomed to interacting in a “virtual” way, so I suddenly projected myself at the Geo For Good summit, with the “official” recognition of Accessible Life, two speech, one as a panelist, a meet-up.

An incredible emotion. Before I had time to recover, 2022 had arrived, when a terrible war involved many of my friends. It was time to talk about Friendship
I was selected twice as a Guiding Star, and for some mysterious reason, on September 2021 I was one of the first Local Guide to have the Road Editor for desktop enabled on my profile. This gave me the opportunity, in 2022, to conclude that journey that began in Norcia six years earlier: Mapping for Good - New roads in the Earthquake area of Italy - Google Maps contribution stories - Local Guides Connect
From then on, the number of added roads has grown enormously, becoming over 80,000 today.

Thanks @TiffanyBnyc for sharing some of the memorable moments of Local Guides
