Connecting with the World: My Local Guides Journey

Hey, I want to share something special with you.

I have been actively using Google Maps since 2020, and it has become an essential part of my life. Over time, I climbed up to Level 7 as a Local Guide, contributing reviews, photos, and helpful information for the community.

My journey with the Local Guides Community began when I met Nareshbhai at an event. During our conversation, he introduced me to this amazing group and its purpose. Inspired by his words, I decided to join the Local Guides community.

One day, @NareshDarji shared about His 50th meet-up happening in Patan without a second thought, I agreed, and it turned out to be one of the most memorable experiences of my life.

It was an incredible Sunday, 8th December 2024, when I got to attend the 50th Local Guide Meetup at Patan hosted by @NareshDarji Bhai.

Big thanks to him for the kind invitation.

The day was packed with learning, exploration, and lots of fun.

A Warm Welcome in Patan

We were a group of 50 to 60 people coming from various places like Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, Baroda, Valsad, Mumbai, and even Rajasthan. Our first stop was the Regional Science Centre, Patan, and we reached there around 10:15 AM.

The welcoming team treated us to a delicious breakfast of tea, coffee, poha, and ragi dosa. Such a great start to the day!

The Regional Science Centre, Patan

This place is a gem for science enthusiasts. Spread over 10 acres, the center is designed to inspire curiosity about science and technology.
It’s not just for students; it’s for everyone who wants to learn and appreciate science in a fun way.

Objectives of the Science Centre:

  • Promoting scientific temperament among children and adults.
  • Acting as a bridge between science, technology, and society.
  • Providing a platform for informal learning for future innovators.

Key Attractions:

  • Theme-Based Galleries: Interactive exhibits on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).
  • Outdoor Sundial: A fascinating way to explore time measurement.
  • Dinosaur Fossil Zone: Perfect for history buffs.
  • Optics Gallery: Learn all about light and optical instruments.
  • Human Science Gallery: Dive into the science of life processes, DNA, and evolution.

  • Land of Dinosaurs: Experience the Jurassic era with life-sized models.
This center is thoughtfully designed with facilities like an auditorium, outdoor activities, a cafeteria, and a parking area. The best part? It’s accessible to specially-abled visitors too!

We spent 3 to 4 hours here, and Dr. Sumitkumar Shashtry’s detailed explanations made the visit even more enriching. From kids to adults, everyone found something to love.

A Visit to Rani ki Vav

After a hearty lunch, we headed to the iconic Rani ki Vav around 4 or 5 PM. This stepwell is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a true architectural marvel. It’s not just a place; it’s a journey back in time.

Why Rani ki Vav is Special

Built during the Solanki dynasty, this structure showcases intricate carvings and unparalleled craftsmanship. It’s a symbol of India’s rich heritage and has been recognized for its cleanliness and historical significance.

Our Experience

We explored the site with the help of a guide who shared fascinating stories about its history. The detailed carvings and architectural beauty left us spellbound. We also clicked lots of photos to capture the essence of this incredible place.

HOW CAN I FORGET ABOUT THIS PERK.
