Hi @anon53600968

Please find out which cameras are supported 360 photos: Create and Publish your own Street View images

@anon53600968 , Use the Street view studio for uploading 360 view photo… Try to use High quality image if you are using mobile phone.

I really miss the feature from the Google Street View app before it was retired. Nowadays, the only options for capturing 360 photos are using a dedicated 360 camera or third-party software, which can be found in the Android or iOS app stores. Fortunately, the 360 photo feature is still available on my Google Pixel 7 Pro, and it’s one of the main reasons I’ve held onto this phone instead of upgrading to the Pixel 9 Pro, where the feature has been removed.

Please bring it back Google

That said, using a dedicated 360 camera could make the process much easier since you only need to take a single shot, significantly speeding up your workflow. In contrast, using your phone requires taking multiple photos, and depending on the stitching software, you might even need to redo the process if the results aren’t satisfactory.
Panorama 360 and virtual tool app is my second recommendation. However, you might need to pay to get a better quality picture.

Ciao @anon53600968 ,

like you, I do love 360 photos and also (especially) doing StreetView . This was my first big project: National Park of La Maddalena.

I know that there are different apps that are allowing you to take 360° photos.
The complex answer is HOW TO UPLOAD.them?

For taking 360 photos or great 4K 360° I bought an Insta360 X3 camera but others are available.
A 360° photo can be EASELY upload on google maps ONLY in selected places like existing POI.

More complex is to answer to “How can I upload a 360° photos in a generic place on Google Maps”?

There are some commercial = $$ software that are allowing to create Virtual Tours but are more professional tools that do not help to place a single photos.

May I suggest you visit the great forum on facebook named " Google Street View Trusted Photographers"

Here you will meet some people “Local Guide” specialized in 360° and StreetView like @potaro67 a great expert.

Please check also for Mr Dean Zwikel and his tool that is, as far as I know, the only one that can solve our problem .

Ciao
Marco

Ciao @ErmesT ,

Mah.

Felicissimo di incontrarti finalmente di persona a Lucca. E anche di conoscere di persona lo splendido mondo popolato delle Local Guide.

A presto
Ciao

@MarcoDavoli Thank you for mentioning me. , @Sairus

Even if you upload 360-degree photos to a POI on Google Maps, the coordinates of those photos will not be the coordinates of the point where the photos were taken.
The coordinates of those photos will be matched to the coordinates of the POI.

This causes the following problems:
・It is not suitable as a street view with correct coordinates.
・It is close to (matches) the coordinates of the POI, so it is slightly more likely to be selected as the TOP image.

However, in fact, when you upload a photo at the same time as registering a new POI on Google Maps, it is not forcibly changed to the coordinates of the POI, but is uploaded to the coordinates held by the EXIF held by the JPEG.

I also find the function to take 360-degree photos using only a smartphone very useful.
Taking photos with a smartphone is a hassle, but it allows you to take photos with a higher resolution than any camera that can take a single shot.
If you understand the nodal points and take pictures calmly, you can take high-resolution photos that are indistinguishable from photos taken with a one-shot camera.

Below is an example of a 360-degree photo I took with just my smartphone.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/Lqk4ken3Fpd44bHD6 : This temple prohibits the use of selfie sticks. However, you are allowed to take pictures by holding your smartphone in your hand.

Even if I don’t have a 360-degree camera, I usually have a smartphone.

360-degree JPEGs taken with a smartphone have higher resolution than those taken with a THETA Z1.

I have already paid for GoThru to upload 322 more tours.
So I rarely use any other tools to upload still images.
I use Street View Studio to upload videos.

@Sairus just for your interest, it’s possible to load in the old camera app and use it on the newer pixel phones. I have the old app just for taking 360s on my pixel 8. it doesn’t overwrite or affect the function of the new camera app, it’s just in addition to.

You had a lot of answers, @anon53600968, mostly correct.
But I want to thanks @potaro67 for his beautiful example. Exactly one year ago I was in the same situation: a beautiful church in Venice where it was not permitted to use a tripod for taking photos. So I decided to use my Pixel 7. I agree that the resolution of a 360 photo taken with a good phone is amazing.
Here’s mine:

There is some error in the stitching (I will have to practice more) but I really like the result.
A 360 photo is uploaded exactly like a regular photo, @SarathUpendran .
Street View Studio is for uploading 360 videos to generate a blue line (Street View)

Ein erstaunlich gutes 360 Grad Foto :+1:@ErmesT
Ich mag grundsätzlich Bilder und Videos lieber, es hat wohl mit meiner Sichtweise der Dinge zu tun.
Jeder so wie er es mag.

I haven’t tried it myself, but I came across a post on the XDA forum. Unfortunately, I can’t share the link here on LGC, but you could try searching for it. Someone there managed to modify the APK and get it working. That said, downloading and installing APKs from outside the Google Play Store always carries some risk, so just be careful

Well said.
That’s exactly similar to my workflow on Google maps for 360 photos and street view for blue lines .
That is a lovely 360 photosphere of that church btw . The stitching error is barely notable

I like to add videos too, @Annaelisa

But a 360° photo give you the possibility to explore the details calmly, zooming and rotating the photo
