Photo 1:The ferry trip is exciting thanks to the fantastic view over the countless Dalmatian islands (Croatia). Between large and very small islands, the Dalmatian archipelago has about 1250 islands of which only about fifty are inhabited.
Second day of this trip that we have titled as an Italian proverb “between saying and doing there is the sea” with an excursion to the island of Dugi Otok or Isola Lunga, an old name in Italian. 102 km but 57 by ferry. Departure from Zadar Gazenica with the Brac ferry and in about an hour and 40 minutes, between islets and a blue, emerald green or turquoise sea, we arrived at the island of Dugi. We disembarked in Brbinj and started our tour from there. I was very worried because it was the first climb we had to tackle and I didn’t want to upset Mariacristina. Instead, when we arrived at the crossroads where I had decided that it would be the maximum point of altitude and we had to decide whether to go down or up, she said to me very surprised: “But was that all we had to do?” Then we turned right and again up a gently sloping road, which ran along the ridge of the island, with the sea to the right and also to the left, with fantastic views of all the islands near and far. On the side of the road a succession of spontaneous orchids that obviously made us get off the bike several times to photograph, also finding things never seen before. We arrived at a small church after about 10 km. Here we ate our last banana and found yet more beautiful orchids. Then we looked at the clock and given the time we took the way back because the Brac ferry would certainly not have waited for us. It is an excursion that can be considered a mini cruise having to cross the narrow passages between the various islands. I recommend it to anyone who wants to take a holiday on the Dalmatian islands. Tomorrow we will go to the island of Pag and spend the night there.
