Mamtor is an amazing hill area that you have to visit. It is a large hill located in Castleton, Derbyshire, part of England’s Peak District area.
Some people call it a mountain due to it standing at around 517 metres.
Once at the summit of Mamtor, you can see for miles on a clear day, and if the weather is good, people paraglide off the edge, which is a great sight to see, I must admit.
Mamtor is very popular in all weather, and people flock to do the climb, which is relatively easy on the way up as it is mostly a single path. Many dog walkers and runners visit the park daily.
It is free to visit, but parking a car can be difficult on busy days. There is a parking area below that costs around £5 for a few hours. Many people park on the street nearby, but the ticket inspectors have a busy day and you see many cars with parking fines, so bear that in mind.
I have been up Mamtor many times. The only advice I would give is to be very careful near the edges, especially when it has been raining, as the ground is very loose in parts.
There have been quite a lot of archaeological digs at the site, as the experts say it was once a military fort in the past, as many items have been found there.
On my hike up to the summit of Mamtor, as you will see at the beginning of the video, a visitor came over for a closer look at my camera equipment as I was getting ready for the hike.
Thankfully, the visitor was very friendly, and I think the animal may have remembered me from my past trips up Mamtor. I filmed the hike on my old GoPro camera so the video is not as good as my recent videos with my newer model of GoPro.
