I spend a lot of time in the mountains and in areas that have no internet connection for my timeline. I want to add photos to google maps, but don’t know how to do this, seems i can’t find the option outside my timeline photos
Hi @Bpraim
Thanks for asking. We can add photos to points of interest only. Not just anywhere. Photos of landscapes and nature does not really belong on Google Maps which is designed and intended to help Maps users to find places of interest (mainly commercial and turist or cultural places).
You might be better off by finding another platform for sharing your photos. Google Photos are Facebook, or Instagram might be better.
Just creating new POIs to post photos is not a viable option.
Sorry.
Thanks! Fully understand the random nature photos, I’m looking more at roads/ lakes/hazards/camping spots.
Hi @Bpraim
It would be really helpful if you would use the tagging tool when replying to someone here on Connect. Type @ followed by the username. Type slowly. Then we get an e-mail notification and you are more likely to get a prompt reply.
Adding photos to roads is also not acceptable according to Google. If you see a Add photo link, button, or menu item then and only then is it okay to add photos.
Cheers
Morten
Thanks @MortenCopenhagen
Hello @Bpraim
First, to record the timeline, one doesn’t need internet connectivity. What’s required is- a. the location history must be on in high. b. The device should be able to detect the GPS signal.
Next, local guides can’t add lakes or mountains but suggest the addition of roads. Also, you can add a camping spot if there is some permanent facility or a service provider location which is not there on Maps.
Nevertheless, we can’t add photos to a road, but for some celebrated exceptions like Lombard Street.
Further, there is no category like Hazard. You have to mention any dangerous situation in your reviews.
Thank you for the guide on how and when to add pictures
- Hey @C_T .
- Thanks for breaking it down.
- I had my GPS on but it just time stamps to the closest road. No worries. Thanks everyone
