How to Hide the photos in your profile Google Maps

Hi Everybody

I just find a very good feature for Google Local Guides called Hide your photos & reviews in your profile .

This feature can be very usefully in many scenarios depending on the situation .

This Feature is also reversible mean you go back to the Original Default settings .

This Feature can be very useful when you want to protect you profile being scanned by other people on the maps , your contribution will remain on maps but others can not directly jump from one place to other who’s images are uploaded by your ID .

The Steps for the process :

  • Open Google Maps App
  • Tap Menu [ three bars on the left ]
  • click your contributions
  • select three dots on the right top then select Profile Settings
  • Toggle the switch on or off as per your preference
  • All Done

this option is good for privacy, or for them who don’t want to show there views or contribution. Its a new finding from you thanks for sharing.

Thanks for tagging me!

I appreciate your efforts & the video (especially the audio part) is really good!!!

But,

Kindly allow me to express my findings:

  1. Hiding the photos is not preferred in Google map, as per Google recommendation.

  2. Because your contributions are supposed to be public & should be useful to the people who search Google Map.

  3. Keeping Photos hidden may cause (or help) banning of your account, sometimes - I have read it somewhere.

Hence, it is better not to opt this feature, if what I understood is correct.

Request all, to correct me, if I am wrong.

the support page does not tell any thing about account suspension or banning of account using this feature .

using this feature does not hide your contribution on maps , it just hide from visitors who are scanned your profile .

i find this feature on maps application so i decided to share with others .

Hello how are you?

Excellent post, very descriptive so does the vĂ­deo.

I don’t think it is a good idea to hide photos or reviews in Google Maps.

All the job that we make it is to share , improve and show a lot of stuffs in public mode to the world.

On the contrary when I find a Local Guide that have the photos and reviews and lists private, I say… What is doing this folk? Why set to private something to share with the world?

Very insightful post you have there @user_not_found . It’s well detailed if one want to follow that route.

I however I do have reservation on a local guide who hides photos that link him to his profile . The whole idea is for one to be proud of his contributions so that others might also find them useful especially when there is a contributor visible and the absence of a real person contributing then you ask what’s the motive of publishing such if you want to be anonymous . Just my thoughts

Thank you for taking time for making your video. Privacy is very important for Google, that’s why they give you the option to hide your contributions on your profile.

For more information: Add, remove, or share photos and videos

Hide the photos in your profile
You can hide your shared photos and videos in your public profile. You’ll still see your photo, rating, or review on that place’s page, unless you delete it directly.

On your computer, open Google Maps.
On the left, click Menu Menu and then Your contributions.
Click Contribute and then Profile settings.
Turn off Show contributions on your public profile.
Your profile won’t list any of your reviews and ratings.

It is quite strange that Google will ban you for using an option provided by them. Can you mention the source of your information, @TravellerG ?
