I spent 10+ years contributing to Google Maps—45,000+ contributions—and Google just banned me with no warning or reason

For over a decade, I contributed photos, reviews, videos, and fact checks to Google Maps—over 45,000 total contributions and nearly 100 million photo views.

I hit Level 10 in the Local Guides program, the highest tier. Then one day:

  • My badge disappeared
  • Uploads froze at “pending”
  • View count completely stopped
  • I was banned from the support forums
  • When I tried to rejoin, I got: “You’re not eligible to become a Local Guide.”

No warning. No email. No explanation. And no appeal system.

They literally erased a decade of work and community contributions like it was nothing. Meanwhile, there’s still no way to even speak to a human.

Here’s the thread I started on X with screenshots and full context:

Hi @benjtheis , I’m sorry about your situation. You mentioned in your message that “ No way to appeal”. Kindly note there is a way to appeal. Please consider appealing, fill out the following form, and submit. I am sure it will be reviewed by the concerned Google team. Good luck.

Dear @benjtheis , sorry to hear that. Just follow what @PrasadVR has told and click on the appeal form. A screenshot with photo you uploaded 2 years ( you holding a elephant) : my question is how a user or a local guides gets valuable information from that photo? Our contributions should have a valuable information to put out for other local guides to travel and navigate.
