Introduce Yourself — July 2024

Hi everyone! Welcome to Local Guides Connect. Please take a moment to introduce yourself to our community.

As “Introduce Yourself” threads can be lengthy, we start a new one each month and lock past threads. You can check previous threads, like June’s, to see who recently joined and where they’re from. We’ll merge any “I’m new” and “Hello world” posts we find elsewhere with this thread to keep things organized.

Do you want to be featured in our monthly Introduce Yourself posts**?** Share your introduction in the comments, following the five prompts below, and a horizontal photo of yourself (in landscape mode). The best introductions will be considered for future Introduce Yourself posts. Please note: Your response may be edited for clarity. By taking part in this challenge, you agree to allow us to share your answers and photo(s) publicly here on Connect.

This month, meet @SergeyDunaev ! Sergey is a Local Guide Level 8, and here’s what he shared.

Hello there!

1. Name: Sergey Dunaev

2. Location: Chicago, IL, USA

3. What I love about being a Local Guide: I enjoy helping others find their way around Chicago and the USA by sharing my observations, photos, videos, and recommendations.

4. My favorite thing to explore: I love exploring architecture, parks, and nature preserves, taking pictures and videos along the way.

5. Fun fact about me: Besides exploring, I am a big food lover and enjoy trying new restaurants. Additionally, I love driving, cycling, roller skating, and cross-country skiing. As an adventurer, I explore places sustainably, such as using an electric bike to cover more ground while minimizing my environmental impact. It’s the perfect balance of fun, exploration, and responsibility.

I am also passionate about accessibility. Recently, I joined Connect and signed up for the Local Guides Top 100 Leaderboards. I’m super happy to be a part of this awesome community!

Nice to meet you, Sergey! Local Guides, don’t miss the chance to say hi to Sergey in the comments below and share your introduction, too.

In the quiet corners of my life, where dreams fluttered like moths to a distant flame, I found a spark. It began with a simple quest for hidden cafes, hushed parks, and the whispers of city streets. Each step I took was a verse in the unfolding poem of my journey.

Wandering through alleys kissed by the sun, I captured the essence of places forgotten by time. My camera, a silent companion, became my brush, painting vivid stories on the canvas of Google Maps. Each photograph was a note in a symphony of discovery, each review a heartbeat echoing in the vast digital landscape.

The first time I shared my thoughts, it felt like releasing a lantern into the night sky. My words, delicate and hopeful, soared above, casting a soft glow on paths unknown. Strangers, like fireflies drawn to the light, found solace in the warmth of my guidance. Their gratitude, like gentle rain, nourished the seeds of my passion.

As I became a Google Local Guide, I embraced a role beyond mere exploration. I became a keeper of memories, a guardian of experiences. With every click, every word, I wove a tapestry of connection, bridging the gap between the curious and the hidden treasures of the world.

In the labyrinth of life’s wanderings, I became a beacon, lighting the way for others to follow. My journey, once solitary, intertwined with countless others. Together, we formed a constellation of explorers, each star a testament to the beauty of shared discovery.

And so, I continue to walk, my footsteps a rhythm of purpose, my heart a compass of compassion. Through the lens of a Google Local Guide, I illuminate paths, not just with light, but with love. For in guiding others, I have found my own way, a luminous path paved with the stories of a world seen through eyes that dare to dream.

Hello friends of local guides from all over the world, it’s been a long time since I said hello and talked about something on the local guides connect forum. I joined this local guides community when I was still single and now I am a mother of two children. And interestingly, I also know my husband because we are both members of this cool community, Local Guides Indonesia. Then now I like to take my two children to meet local guide friends, my husband and I, and they really like it, the local guides accept my two children very well, making them local guides since they were little. And I hope that my two children will be able to explore the world and create beautiful memories that will shape their character into someone who is tough and brave enough to fight.

And I challenge you to tell about your exciting experiences from being a local guide

As a Connect Moderator it’s always nice to meet and learn more about fellow Local Guides @SergeyDunaev and for me personally, even more so when they are participants on the Top 100 Leaderboards  However, it’s also great to learn that you are an adventurer and passionate about accessibility and as you’re also a big food lover and enjoy trying new restaurants, you will have lots in common with many foodies here I’m sure. We look forward to seeing on the Leaderboards.

ps: If you haven’t already done so then you might be interested in the forthcoming virtual meet-up on the Leaderboards but don’t leave your run too late as places are filling fast and time is running out. To read more about this meet-up and see how to register, simply click the image below
