It is Java Plum or Jamun season

The season of Java plum fruit arrives here locally. It is known locally as Pring, Pring Bay or Pring Dos Krobey. It doesn’t look luxurious and attractive like other fruits, but it has so much benefits to ones’ health.

We would see them at street food stalls, and they are sold by a bottle. It is believed to have rich nutritional value, counting from various types of vitamins (B1, B2, B3, B6, Vitamin C) to many others such as fiber, proteins, carbohydrates, and various kinds of minerals too (calcium, iron, potassium, sodium, magnesium and phosphorus.

How we eat it?

  • We can just wash it and eat directly or do it other way.
  • Mix the salt and sugar (some would add chili) and then mix these with the fruits by shaking them in a covered bowl for 1-2minutes. When they all mixed together, the fruit become softer and very good to eat!
  • Some people would soak them in the wine for a long time and drink it on a daily basis.

Aaahh…, I know this fruit, @Sophia_Cambodia

Here in my East Java, Indonesia, this fruit is called “juwêt”.

It taste sour but fresh. We usually eat it as is or with pinch of salt.

I think it’s kind of wild fruit. And I just know that its name is java plum. Hahaa…

Thanks for sharing, @Sophia_Cambodia

@iorikun301 it is geographical fruit that can be found in many countries weather alike. It is not wild fruit here. People plant it at home and it is a big tree, not vine like grape. Yes, it is sour that’s why we eat them like mango, mixing with salt and sugar + chili :slightly_smiling_face:

Wow! That’s a lot of java plum you’ve shown here, @Sophia_Cambodia

In my city this fruit is quite difficult to find. I think it offers more than USD 1 per cup like you’ve shown here. Expensive.

When I was a child, it’s quite easily to find a thumb size java plum. But now there’s only the smalll one.
