It's Movember Month - 2024

What is Movember?

As a reminder November is also Movember where men all over the world grow a mustache to raise awareness and support and funds for Prostate Cancer, Testicular Cancer, Mental health and Suicide prevention in men. In more than 20 countries across the world there are men that are doing this to help.

It had humble beginnings in Australia in 1999 by a small number of men and now has grown worldwide.

Since its inception, the Movember Foundation has raised $837 million and funded over 1,200 projects in more than 20 countries according to Wikipedia.

Some of the countries that I am aware of that participate are

Australia, Brazil, Canada ,Czech Republic, Denmark, El Salvador, Ireland, Israel, Kuwait, New Zealand, Spain, South Africa, Taiwan, The UK and the USA.

Do they do this or support this in your area?

Why am I so supportive of this Cancer Awareness program? Please let me share my story. I was diagnosed with prostrate cancer years ago. Last year it finally spread to the point where I needed treatment. I went through intense Radiation and now I am Cancer free. You can see my Original post from last year here.

Why I am sharing this post is a reminder to all my male friends, colleagues and Local Google Guides, especially those over the age of 45, to get tested. To my Female friends and Guides, please encourage your partners, brothers, dads, uncles and friends to get tested. It’s a simple PSA blood test that your doctors can prescribe.

Some interesting facts:

In Canada 1 in 9 men will be diagnosed with Prostate Cancer.
Over 90% of men survive with early detection.
98 % of diagnosed men with Prostate Cancer are over 50.
So please get tested Cancer can be beaten with early detection.

                           GET TESTED

Hello Local Guides! Happy Movember! @TerryPG
Movember is such an important month to raise awareness about men’s health, and it’s great to see so many people showing their support! Growing a mustache is a fun way to start conversations about topics like mental health, cancer, and overall well-being for men. Let’s make a difference together! #Movember #MensHealth

I’m IN @TerryPG! In fact, my five-month-old beard is gone :scream: so I can get a fresh start for the month.

I’m so very happy that you are healthy and still here with us, Sir! Thank goodness for the physicians, your family, and for you being smart (brave?) enough to get screened.

Thanks @JustJake I always like hearing from you. I am glad that beard is gone, I much prefer the “clean shaven Jake” compared to the “Hobo Biker Jake”
I’m sure your family likes it too.

Hola @TerryPG, gracias por exponer este tema. Acá, en Uruguay, no está tan difundido el Movimiento Momember, pero se hacen intervenciones puntuales. Animo a todos que sigan tus consejos.
Gracias por compartirlo.

@TerryPG I’ll tell you, the kids had fun shaving it off for me. I didn’t want to surprise them and have 'em think some clean-shaven square replaced cool, hobo dad!
