In the neighborhood of Lucca we have a very well famous trattoria which is known to be one of the best place to eat such plate, the Trattoria Da Benito in a very close village of Lucca.
Actually it is a very simple restaurant, so very informal, always busy daily so requiring to be booked bit in advanced, especially for big groups, but they are very meat expert! They don’t provide you a menu because they expect you went there to eat the bistecca of course! So just seat and eat … they will come to ask you the amount of meat you want to have, if you want any appetizer and / or side dishes and that’s all, of course with a nice glass of red wine.
About this delicious meat lovers plate, the cut is the commonly English named T-Bone because it is a sirloin cut of the beef at the center of its back but inclusive of its bone which is the T bone, it is 5 or 6 cm of height and 1 or 1,5 kg at least. The name bistecca is coming from the English form beef-steak.
The history of this plate is commonly referred to the San Lorenzo feast at the time of the Medici in Firenze when people were cooking a lot of meat on the fire in the street.
The preparation requires that the meat should stays a few weeks broiling in the fridge to get a soft shape, then it can be cooked making sure it reached a regular environment temperature first (not cold!). The cooking must be done on the grill with a very hot fire made by wooden, however the meat should not cook directly touching the flame itself. The cooking is just 3 or 4 minutes as it is a must to eat the meat raw, initially very close to the fire to get its smell and flavor and then bit higher to finish cooking softly.
Thank you @LuigiZ . I am going to have lunch right now but I don’t expect to get this delicious plate. By the way, I added the palace to my must - visit place enjoy your lunch too!!!
I’d eaten a filling lunch earlier so not hungry now but I would have had to eat some more Piccolo’s - Italian Crostini (Rosemary flavoured). I think Crostini could be eaten as side dish with olives!
I am a food connoisseur. Gaining weight is also something I know about too.
Yes Crostini are delicious , we have them in many types and flavors according where we are going to eat them. Small ones are good for appetizers or topping soups, bigger ones are good still as appetizers but also side dishes and you can definitely combine them with everything: olives, cheese, cherry mozzarella, cherry tomatoes or simply but very tasteful with fresh extravergine olive oil.
I like food too but I’m lucky to be thin and not getting weight hehe … have you ever been to Italy and do you like Italian food? Do you have a favorite plate?
Thank you @ErmesT , yes it is indeed a very good one, one of the best in the area … and yeah, looking at those pictures at time of day makes them starting smelling for real haha.
Whenever you should come then you are my guest for this place . I also personally lack knowledge of your region, so it is a mutual wish!
