Kerak telor, traditional food from Jakarta.

Egg crust is a traditional food from the Jakarta or Betawi, Indonesia .

The ingredients :

  • white glutinous rice,

  • chicken or duck eggs,

  • dried roasted shrimp

  • fried shallots,

Then given a finely seasoned form of

  • roasted coconut,
  • red chili,
  • kencur,
  • ginger,
  • granulated pepper,
  • salt and sugar sand.

Heated on frying pan with cover using charcoal at the tracotta brazier
Keep it hot using bamboo fan.

Kerak telor better eat in hot condition.
Sell by street hawker using a bamboo balance yoke, but now it is very rare to find the hawker walking around the pedestrian. They stay in a strategic places or come fro one festival to another festival.

Thanks for sharing this Pak @BudiFXW ! I really like kerak telor, but it’s getting harder and harder to get it these days. Not many places sell this near where my parents live in Jakarta. Looking at posts like this always makes me homesick haha.

They now concentrated in tourist destination like Kota Tua, Lapangan Banteng, Setu Babakan Jagakarsa.

Jakarta festival in the big mall, they have several booth alocated for this Kerak Telor.

Usually they start open in the afternoon.

You should try Kerak Telor when you go back to Jakarta.

Wah ngeliat ini,auto kepingin udah lama…nggak makan n berjumpa sama makanan betawi khad JKT ini…jadi lapar auto batal puasa nich pak… haha :grin: :joy:
