Lake Temagami Northern Ontario, Canada

We have visited here for the last 3 years, cottaging is a true Canadian thing. It’s located almost 500 kms. north of us and depending on traffic takes about 6 hours to reach.

A little bit of history and some facts on Ontario. Ontario is Canada’s 2nd largest province From North to South its 1.690 Kms. or 1.050 miles long, 1,568 Kms or 974 miles wide. It would take 24 hours to drive from north to south.

Ontario is huge, it’s larger than France and Spain combined. 3 times the size of Germany and about ⅓ the size of India. Lake Temagami is about 35% up north in Ontario. Most of Ontario’s population live near the southern end near the Great lakes.

There are no roads or vehicles on the island; it is small with 5 cottages to rent. Access by boat only. Each cottage sleeps between 5 and 6 people, and comes with all your appliances Satellite T.V. and of course a BBQ. You have your deck as well. The Internet is sparse because you’re on an island. I used to get up early in the morning with my coffee before the teenage grandkids woke up. On the island there is a basketball court, Volleyball court, horseshoe pit, swimming area, a fire pit area and even a Hot tub.

The fishing is great, if you know what you’re doing( my son and son-in-law won’t see this)

I read 3 books in the week and just relaxed, especially with the views which were Spectacular and Breathtaking.

We also hiked up High Point island. The views were worth it, a little tough on the old guy me but we did it.

The ducks loved us because my granddaughter fed them every morning. And on the last day when leaving I almost hit a very large 6 ft black bear. He ran into the bushes and waited for me to drive by. I was not getting out of the car but took a pick with the window down( not the best photo). He was on his way to the dump.

All in all a fantastic location and great vacation.

I almost forgot to mention that we had two days where the wind changed direction and we were affected by the smoke from the wild fires that were happening in Quebec.

Thank you to CANUSA Vacations for another wonderful week.

What a relaxing place @TerryPG I loved your pictures of this place as much as the fact that there are not vehicles here. Some day I would like to visit Ontario I am sure I will enjoy it as I did in my others places in Canada years ago, such a beautiful country.

A lovely, relaxing place to be @TerryPG . I’d love to come and so tempted to jump to the lake to swim :). Btw, that black bear was doing a peek-a-bo with you… I suppose you still have many of their population in the area?

It is so relaxing @indahnuria Even in August the water is still a little cool to jump in.

Where I live the bear population is miniscule but up here they are all over the place and the further you go in Northern Ontario they are very prominent .There are warnings in this area about moose, I have yet to see one and don’t want to meet one of them on the road.

Very interesting post, dear LG friend @TerryPG Ji…

Very beautiful place too…

Immersive photos… Highly appreciate…

I loved the “High Point View” photo.

After reading about the black bear, I was little scared… Are they not dangerous?

The bear photo serves the purpose.

Thanks for sharing…

Thank you so much @TravellerG The water is so crystal clear and yes the black bear can be very dangerous, so do not go near them, These Bears are generally at least 6 foot high and they don’t want anything to do with humans, but if provoked they will attack. That’s why I did not get out of the car to take the photo.

@TerryPG This is very cool, almost like a private island experience with only limited cottages. I am pretty sure your family had great time here.

Looks absolutely serene. I can only imagine the level of peace and relaxation. I’ve never been to Ontario (just Vancouver) but seems like a gorgeous place to get away from the States and have a relaxing time with the Mrs.

Hi @columbus-oh and thanks for responding with your first post here to my thread, You would be surprised to know that about 40% of these cottage rentals come from repeat Americans who love the fishing up here.
