Learn more about challenges on Connect here

We often organize community challenges on Connect that give participants the chance to win a special Connect badge. Read on to find answers to the most common questions.

How do I take part in a challenge?

It’s simple! Be on the lookout for posts from Googlers and Google Moderators that have the word “challenge” in the title.

Then, read the requirements carefully. They will include making specific contributions on Google Maps and/or Connect, or sharing a story.

Take the time you need to make your entry the best it can be — but be mindful of the deadline mentioned in the challenge post. Entries submitted after the deadline will not be considered.

How many Connect challenge badges can I win?

Currently, there are four badges you can earn:

  • Connect Challenge Winner — when you complete and meet the requirements for your first challenge.
  • Three-time Connect Challenge Winner — when you successfully fulfill the requirements for three challenges.
  • Five-time Connect Challenge Winner — when you successfully fulfill the requirements for five challenges.
  • Ten-time Connect Challenge Winner — when you successfully fulfill the requirements for ten challenges

You don’t have to win three, five, or ten times in a row to get the respective challenge winner badge. So if there is a challenge you can’t or don’t want to participate in, it’s totally OK! We keep track of all participants and winners for every challenge.

How will I know if I’ve won a challenge and earned a badge?

When you win one, three, five, or ten challenges, you will receive a notification on Connect and via email with your new badge. Make sure to enable email notifications for earned badges in your notification settings.

For any challenge wins in between (two, four, six, seven, eight, and nine), please see the first few comments below. We keep a running list to give you visibility over where you’re standing. Once you are added to the list, you will receive a notification for the mention — and know that you’ve won a challenge.

We hope you’re enjoying the Connect challenges! What challenges would you like to see? Let us know in the comments.

Thank you so much for this post, @DeniGu , and congratulations to all the Two times winners.

In fact that part wasn’t too clear, and some of us was worried about not being notified about a possible badge for the second challenge.

Unlike the number of posts, likes, solutions badges, which can be checked via our profile in Connect, there is no place to see how many challenges we have won.
Indeed, through our profile in Connect, we can see how many posts we have written, how many likes we have given, etc. but not the number of challenges.

I am so excited to be on such a special list

Thanks @DeniGu for this excellent update. This gives the clarity not only on how to take part in such challenges but also the record of 2nd, 4th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th time winners.

Congratulations to all second time winners and all the best for the third one (as and when it comes :grinning: ).

Wish me luck for the Second time :love_letter: .

Hi @DeniGu

I have been wondering if the Connect Challenges could be used to support and inspire Local Guides to create more quality contributions on Maps.

Why don’t we have challenges a la:

How to capture, edit, and share a Cover Photo on Google Maps.

How to check the quality of your own reviews.

How to increase the likelihood that your edits and new places on Google Maps get approved.

I know this will likely need much more than a quick announcement post. Probably some educational posts, videos and samples to discuss. And maybe even an online quiz.

Food for thought.

Cheers

Morten

Thanks for keeping up your promise so fast, Googler friend @DeniGu ,

Sincerely thank you for such an inspiring mission to announce the “TWO TIME” winners through this post;

However, personally, I feel that the second Badge (7th Anniversary) should have been distributed to all the winners, equally, which would have been more inspiring for participants like me - that would have avoided another list like this post, as well.

  • just my humble feedback, please.

Once again thanks for all motivation.

Thank you for the challenge suggestions, @MortenCopenhagen ! These will definitely require some thought.

Hey @TravellerG , there isn’t a 7th Anniversary badge. The Connect birthday post was a challenge that is counted towards the three-time challenge winner badge, which you can see in the main post above (the yellow trophy against an orange background).

However, there were many participants who didn’t have the first Connect challenge badge (the yellow ribbon on a blue background), so they received it. Hope this helps clear things up!

Hello @DeniGu

Thank you for the very nice post it’s very good to read this. It has answered all the questions on challenges. This will awaken the interest and participation of local guides. We like badges and community interactions.

Still 2 more to go for the nice new red badge. Can’t wait for the next challenge, getting ready.
