We live in a generation where the food or restaurant ratings are majorly dependent on the influence it creates, not just via people who visit but majorly through social media. And, social media definitely has influenced us a lot, especially while we decide or choose a restaurant or a cafe for a visit. But I wanted to know your opinion on this. What influences you majorly in your decision to visit a restaurant or a cafe? Is it the extravagant ambience that is showcased over social media or the quality of their food? What are the other parameters that influence your decision other than these 2?
Personally, I’d like to share that I do prefer both ambience and quality. But I also prefer quantity of the food served. Some restaurants doesnt care about this factor and it has majorly affected my opinions on their ratings. Recently I ordered a mexican fried rice in a well known cafe that was known for its ambience. To my dismay, not only the quality of the food was terrible, but the quantity was also disappointing! Not worth the price paid.
Do let me know in the comments of your experiences and opinions on this. Wishing you all a Happy month of April!

These days, it feels like Instagrammable spots get more hype than actual good food, right?
For me, the number one factor is always the taste. if the food’s not good, no matter how aesthetic the place is, it’s a no-go. Ambience is a nice bonus, but not the main deal. I also agree with you about portion size some places serve such tiny portions at premium prices, and it’s honestly frustrating. Especially when you’re really hungry!
Another thing that influences me is the service. A friendly staff can turn an okay experience into a great one. I’ve had average meals made better just because the people were kind and helpful.
I agree these two are the major points.
Price point vs the quality+quantity matters a lot.
Next comes ambiance, considering the food was fine.
After that is the service - was it served properly, waiting time after the order was placed, and was the waiter polite?
Did you complain about the Rice issue? Did they entertain your complaint? That too matters.
Finally, I check the storefront photo, is there parking available, do they have any waiting area, front desk, reception, etc. Although these matter, the last though not least.
In your post, please share the link to the restaurant or a link to your review.
For me, food quality and hygiene are always the top priorities when choosing a restaurant. A good ambience is definitely appreciated, but it’s secondary - like the cherry on top.
Value for money is also important.
Being a bit of a selective foodie , I usually check Google Maps ratings and reviews before visiting an outlet. I also ask opinion of my friends and colleagues if they’ve tried the new spot and how the food was, especially if I’m after a specific dish.
I prefer trustworthy feedback over just what’s trending on social media.
That’s an interesting question @Nemolovestravel
I feel quality of food and service matters the most, sometimes simple restaurant which is running for years might not have very fancy look but yet they serve delicious food that will never disappoint you, plus the staff service and atmosphere is much more relaxed and family friendly.
The rice in your picture looks nice but sorry to hear that it was not good enough. Did you reach out to staff about the same? Many places, help you replace or somewhat customize the dish if you are not happy with it.
@Nemolovestravel
