Hey fellow Local Guides!
We’re part of an incredible global community, spanning countless countries and boasting a massive number of passionate contributors. Yet, when we look at the current meetup numbers, we see a reality that doesn’t quite reflect our potential: only 15-20 meetups happening globally.
Think about the impact we could have if we amplified that! Imagine the connections we could forge, the knowledge we could share, and the positive changes we could bring to our local communities.
Why Meetups Matter:
Real-world Connections: Meetups allow us to connect face-to-face, building lasting relationships with fellow Local Guides.
Knowledge Sharing: We can learn from each other, exchange tips, and discover new ways to contribute to Google Maps.
Community Impact: Meetups provide opportunities to improve our local areas, highlight hidden gems, and support local businesses.
Motivation and Inspiration: They reignite our passion for contributing and remind us of the power of our collective efforts.
A Challenge to Every Local Guide:
I believe every Local Guide has the potential to host at least one meetup a week! Yes, you read that right – one meetup a week!
Think about it:
It doesn’t have to be a grand event. A simple photo walk, a local business discovery session, or a map editing workshop can make a big difference.
You can focus on a specific niche, like accessibility, food, or nature, to attract like-minded individuals.
By hosting a meetup, you can help to teach new guides about the local guides program.
Need Help? We’ve Got You Covered!
Connect is your resource: Ask questions, share ideas, and find inspiration from other Local Guides.
Reach out to Connect Moderators: Our amazing Connect moderators are always ready to provide guidance and support.
Utilize Google’s Resources: Google provides tools and resources to help you plan and promote your meetups.
Let’s transform those 15-20 meetups into a thriving network of weekly gatherings! Let’s show the world the power of the Local Guides community.
Let’s ignite our communities and make a real impact! Who’s with me? #LocalGuides#Meetups#Community#LetsConnect#GoogleMaps
Excellent write-up on the benefit of meetups, dear @Gvipin
I agree with the points.
However, most local guides whom you expect to act on this are most probably not reading this post or are too busy to consider hosting a meetup or attending one.
We have meetups almost every week out here in Pune and the attendance flares from 30-60 at times, while it may also come down to just 3 depending on the availability of local guides on that day.
It’s a great post with details of the importance of meetups and the benefits of Local Guides Community @Gvipin
Lately I have also observed the drop in numbers when we host in person meet-ups. Hope it improves soon, till then let’s keep up the efforts of hosting meet-ups in Delhi. There are a lot of places yet to be covered. @TusharSuradkar We are eagerly waiting for your arrival here in Delhi and would love to host you. In the meanwhile, I will look up a few places which you haven’t already covered during your earlier stay in Delhi NCR (Which isn’t an easy task btw )
Well said. Post covid meetups has gone down drastically. We had conducted a series of virtual meetups @Gvipin . Pre covid in my place many meetups we conducted in person. In 2019 we had Google sponsored meetups in every country. Our country had the prevelege of having such 2 meetups one in Delhi and another in Chennai. During covid our virtual knowledge sharing meetups atteacted Local Guides globally. We too attended the meetups of other countries too.. Now I am happy that presently again this is gaining momentum.
Thanks @Gurukrishnapriya for reminding that series of Meet up during Covid we used to have every week one meet up , @TravellerG can tell the exact number as we have covered more than 100 meet up and topics start from connect meet up to craft meet up very small yet useful topic name IVM. Inspirational virtual meet up series had been covered even minute photography trips and tricks to connect post had been conducted.
Those meet up had given lots of new friends as gems in our bucket. @AjitThite@TusharSuradkar@KashifMisidia@NareshDarji@tejal ben @RosyKohli@BijohnAdams even @TusharSuradkar bhau @Shrut19@Erna_LaBeau@Indarto@Ewaade_3A and many more.

Very well conceived and published post, dear @Gvipin
All the points are valuable and have it own importance - sincerely appreciate your efforts.
I fully agree with our dear @TusharSuradkar and pray that you should not become desperate…the response and/or end result may not be as you expect…as the real audiance are busy in their own way and less likely they’ll read this…
However, your Idea and dedication is well appreciated…
Thank you very much…
