Connect Moderators are Local Guides just like you and me. They apply the knowledge they’ve gained as active members of our community to moderate Connect and help improve the experience for everyone. You may see them welcoming newcomers, explaining the program, answering questions, and sharing their knowledge with others.
Each month, we share some personal insights from one of our amazing Connect Moderators. This month, meet Nyai ( @NyaiNurjanah ). Nyai lives inSukabumi, West Java, Indonesia, and speaks Sundanese, bahasa Indonesia, and English.
Name: Nyai Nurjanah. People call me Nyai, but you can call me anything you feel comfortable with, no problem.
Location: Sukabumi, West Java, Indonesia
What I love about being a Local Guide: The Local Guides [program] is a chance for me, for you, and for all of us to share our thoughts [and] our voice by contributing on Maps and, as part of a global community, [to make] navigation easy for everyone.
Why I’m a Connect Moderator: I love that Connect is a very friendly place, and [it] is not only a home for Local Guides from all around the world, but we’re [also] learning many things here. So I want to make sure [it] is a welcoming place for all members of the Local Guides family.
My favorite things to explore: I don’t have anything specific, just what I [stumble upon] in my daily life. Like, I find very beautiful places with unique culture because I lost my way while riding my motorbike [and] exploring places near my town. Thank God, when [that happens], there is always a kind-hearted person to help me find my way with the warm words, “You’re riding [a] motorbike, please, take good care.”
My favorite type of contribution(s) to make on Google Maps: Writing reviews with photos. After a trip, I head back home with lots of memories and reviews [to share] on Google Maps based on my experiences. The other thing I love is adding new places no one knows about.
Languages I read/speak/write fluently: I was born in West Java, Indonesia, so Sundanese is my everyday language. Bahasa Indonesia is my second language, and I keep improving my English as my third language.
Fun fact about me: Since I was young, I have always eaten at home, and I really [started going to] restaurants after several years of working. So when I go to a restaurant, I always order [the dish with] the simplest name possible, without complicated variations and special additions, or, if it is difficult to say the name, [I] show the number or picture of the dish in the menu. I also rarely complain about the taste of the food.
We hope you’ve enjoyed getting to know @NyaiNurjanah . Say hi or ask her a question below as she has a lot to share about Google Maps and Connect.
