Meet a Connect Moderator: Tushar

Connect Moderators are Local Guides just like you and me. They apply the knowledge they’ve gained as active members of our community to moderate Connect and help improve the experience for everyone. You may see them welcoming newcomers, explaining the program, answering questions, and sharing their knowledge with others.

Each month, we share some personal insights from one of our amazing Connect Moderators. This month, meet Tushar ( @TusharSuradkar ). Tushar lives inPune, India, and speaks Marathi, Hindi, and English.

Name: Tushar Suradkar

Location: Pune, India

What I love about being a Local Guide: I like exploring well-known places and meeting locals. I listen to their stories and experiences to gather helpful information that isn’t available anywhere else, then upload it on Google Maps or share it on Local Guides Connect.

Why I’m a Connect Moderator: I love extending a helping hand to budding Local Guides who have taken the first step to explore and post on Connect. I sincerely believe that [that] encouragement provides them with the much-needed impetus. I help both new and experienced Local Guides to contribute and participate actively on Connect. As a Connect Moderator, I also give advice about the dos and don’ts on the platform.

My favorite things to explore: My favorite thing to explore is clock towers in small and big cities in India, as each town has one. Clock towers are typically built to reflect the art and culture that is unique to the region.

Another favorite thing is the forts in India, as there are more than 550 in superb condition. These forts served as a secure place to preserve the heritage, art, and culture of the region in the best possible manner and provide an opportunity for a history buff like me to experience everything in one place.

My favorite type of contribution(s) to make on Google Maps: Besides clock towers and forts, I explore step-wells that number several thousand and add them on Google Maps. Besides that, my favorite type of contribution is adding accessibility information to every review on Google Maps.

Languages I read/speak/write fluently: Marathi is my mother tongue and among the top ten languages in the world. I also [speak] Hindi and, of course, English. I’m an expert in all three languages and can read, write, speak, and translate between them.

Besides that, I can comprehend Kannada, Gujarati, and Punjabi and have learned Sanskrit in school. Each of these languages has a distinct script, [different from] the Roman script.

Places I’d like to visit: Exploring the northeast regions of India is high on my bucket list. I dream of exploring more places in Eastern Europe and the national parks in the US, [too].

Fun fact about me: I like playing the flute in my spare time.

We hope you’ve enjoyed getting to know @TusharSuradkar . Say hi or ask him a question below as he has a lot to share about Google Maps and Connect.

In my favourite connect moderator, you ( @TusharSuradkar ) one of them. As a local guide I achieved much knowledge from you and from those all, most importantly:

  • Knowledge about accessibility
  • Rules for 1000 photo limit

From this post, I have known more about you. So thank you @InaS for this post.

Stay safe and haapp

Greatly appreciated @AdamGT :+1:

Every Indian grows up with at least 3 languages, a mother tongue, Hindi the national language, and of course English for international communication.

Relocating within the country gives exposure to more languages as each province has a different language.
