This is one frustrating scenario for a local guide like me. In my neighbourhood there are two Westfield listed on Google maps, and they are in different locations and different descriptions.
Now Westfield Towers is in William Street, Woolloomooloo NSW which is a skyscraper once the headquarters for Westfield group. The other is **Westfield Shopping Centre **which is located inside Pitt Street Mall. Both are listed as Shopping Mallin Google maps and yet Westfield Towers is just a skyscraper function as an office tower.
I had suggested an edit on Google maps to change Westfield Towers to a Business centre but was rejected! I also reported reviews on Westfield Towers as “inappropriate contents” because majority of reviews were meant to be about Westfield Shopping Centre and yet these reviews are still in the Westfield Towers Google maps reviews!
In this regards, I decided not to bother anymore trying to edit it on Google maps! I felt frustrated because I really gave a stuff but not anymore.
@SirB I understand your feeling as I was in the same situation as well. I tried to change the name of a restaurant and it was successfully changed in my 3rd try. It teaches me not to expect things too much, just do the best I can, that’s all.
For your case, is there any way you can take a photo to show that Westfield Towers is just a skyscraper function as an office tower? It might be easier to prove it using some photos you take along with GPS position showing you are at the place.
but to no avail. And even after suggested an edit for Westfield Tower that it’s NOT a shopping centre it was rejected by Google maps because it couldn’t be verified!
As a Local Guide I feel obliged to set some records straight about my neighbourhood but alas, I give up.
I am 3 minutes walk to Westfield Towers and ten minutes walk to Westfield Shopping Centre and these two are not both shopping malls. So perhaps someone else in Sydney suggests an edit as I’ve given up.
@SirB My paradise side is great. How have you been? You have disappeared for a while. Been busy?
OK, I see. I think you already did your best. Let’s not expect the result too much, at least we will feel better. But I think if someone does the same as you did, it will be easier for Google Maps to make that modification.
Yes I too have had this experience @SirB and just wrote about being A frustrated Local Guide I see thing that are obviously wrong on Maps, I report these either by the Suggest an edit or the Send feedback options but I’m ignored. I ask myself, why should I bother? Why do I give a stuff!!!
I guess we’re feeling frustrated because we are trying to do the right things for Google maps and for everyone who is using the maps as a mean of getting the right information. But alas…hang in there mate & keep ya chin up
I understand it’s an arduous process but it’s not encouraging Local Guides like myself to waste time doing it.
What’s particularly concerning for me is when photos were flagged as not belonging to the location, they disappear from that location, but then appear again after a while! And noticed that these flagged photos were by the same user (with a Local Guide badge!). Maybe because I feel loyal to the area I live and know to observe it being “spammed” is annoying.
Sorry about the long message but I didn’t want to start a new post.
When a suggestion is made to a POI on Google Maps, the team will investigate whether there’s grounds for applying the change or not. If an edit is being denied, it’s most likely because there wasn’t enough evidence to verify it. You can read much more about it in Why is my edit status “Pending” or “Not Applied”?
Regarding the photos you are flagging, a removal of those photos won’t prevent the user who uploaded them from uploading them again. If you know of a specific Local Guide who are spamming on Google Maps, please let me know, so I can contact you in private with instructions on how to proceed, but please don’t share any private information on the user publicly.
Understanding flagged photos removed and can be reposted will definitely stop me from flagging wrong photos on Google maps. It’ll save my phone battery, lol, as there’s just too many in my neighbourhood to flag!
