Every week I lead a group of walkers on a walk through the beautiful countryside of South Somerset, Dorset or Devon with no charges, payments or tips etc.
I email the group each week, after I have completed a pre-walk, to confirm meeting place, location of the walk, set out the route, distance, forecast weather conditions, gradient category, notable features, suggested footwear & weather gear, where which pub we will visit for coffee / lunch afterward. I also attach a Outdooractive shared route file and a few photos of the scenery.
I tried to create a post but the standard format doesn’t suit the content I need to upload, ie not enough text, no image uploads etc.
Is there an opportunity to propose the creation of a post format suitable for such a application?
I feel my walk posts would enhance the value of using Google Maps as more and more people turn to the outdoors for leisure activities.
Hi @nickmair1 “Welcome to Connect! If this is your first visit, you’ve come to the right place. This post will serve as a guide for everything you need to know about contributing content and engaging with the Local Guides community on Connect”. This is the first of the information that you will find in “Your guide to Connect” , the introductory Guide of the community. In there you will find all the necessary information to know how to better contribute in here.
Connect is a place to get to know other Local Guides, plan activities, share your stories, give feedback and more.
Not sure what you are trying to post. In a single post in Connect you can write up to 20 thousand characters, and you can add photos with a size up to 3MB.
The limitation is about embedding external content, and hyperlinks to external websites can trigger the spam filter, but I dont see other issues. The editor has been created to write posts, not to build a website page, so if you are trying to directly paste a website page this can be an issue.
The editor is intentionally limited to simple functions that can be useful to write an appealing post, without other functions, like text formatting etc to make it simple to write for everyone.
Of course you are welcome to write about some of your walks (I’ve seen some interesting photos in your profile in Google Maps) and to tell us about the place you visited and the trail you explored. As this is a worldwide community, providing some link in Google Maps can give the possibility to others to explore the places too.
Do you have a doubt about how to do something here or in Google Maps? The Help desk is here for you, with a long list of post with detailed indications on how to post.
Which kind of contents we share in the community? What are Connect topics? will give you an explanation
