The British Eastern Railway Company first introduced meter gauge train on the Allahabad-Kanpur line in 1859 AD and after the construction of the Naini bridge, it became the main junction between the Delhi-Howrah main line, which was commissioned around 1866. As well as, it became the headquarters of Northern Central Railway.

It’s considered one of the busiest junctions during the Mahakumbh, Ardh-kumbh and Magh Mela, then special trains run to Prayagraj from everywhere.
