Pune Airport Diaries - New Terminal 2024

The Pune airport experienced a major uplift with the addition a new terminal this year.

I was here to take a flight to Delhi in October 2024 to attend the Contributors Conversations event by Google.

The top attraction is near the entrance, where they have erected a demonstration of the traditional MallKhamb sport, which is native to Maharashtra.

The entrance gates also have the traditional Maharashtrian Cusped Arches.
These are supported on decorated pillars.

The biggest surprise was in the common area before the ticketing counters.

A DeepMaal Lamppost was erected right in the center of the hall.

These are epitome symbols of the Maharashtrian Culture and are found in Hindu Temples.

This also reminded me of our recent meetup about Deepmaal Lamppost in Pune.

On the far end of the main terminal building is a huge composite painting displaying the Warkari people singing songs in praise of Lord Vitthal. Also seen in the paintings are highly localized saints Dnyaneshwar and Tukaram Maharaj.

On the second floor is another huge painting depicting the coronation ceremony of Shivaji Maharaj - the father of the Maratha Rennaisance.

Some more attractions at the new terminal building at the Pune International Airport are the deep blue meditation pose and another lighting tree that looked attractive.

This is strange. Where is my reply to this post, I had posted early morning.

Any idea @TusharSuradkar. I remember you also acknowledged my reply. Is there any data loss in between?

Yes, that seems strange @Kumaarsantosh
A few minutes ago, I saw that it was showing ‘User deleted the message’.
I thought you might have deleted mistakenly.

But now it is gone altogether.

No, I did not otherwise ‘User deleted the message’ should have been there as you spotted rightly @TusharSuradkar.

Something has gone wrong at system end because not only comments, some of the notifications I received this morning on ‘Likes’ and ‘Reply’ have also gone now.

And, if you have the email @TusharSuradkar, please share the screenshot of my original comment to this post. For my reference only.

That is a big problem @Kumaarsantosh in that case.
This issue is now reported internally with Google.
I will share with you any update on this.

Yes…that’s why immediately I requested for this screenshot @TusharSuradkar. In general, we delete them after reading and responding.

This will help as a reference pointer. Thank you so much for sharing.

Beautiful updates on Pune Airport @TusharSuradkar . I have been traveling around and stopping by at various airports and I do enjoy their unique designs and features . Recently, Soekarno - Hatta International airport is undergoing major facelift as well and the process is still ongoing. Last night, as I arrived from Fiji, I notice the new gigantic interactive screen has been installed and we have ‘tropical forest’ in the arrival hall. Love to see all those greeneries …

Unfortunately, I just realized I only took picture of the screen, not the greeneries. Maybe later as soon as I fly again, I can take more pictures.

Thank you for the explenations. I very much like the aesthetics of the place, although it’s a little too new and shiny…

Thank you @SASCHA1
Good observation :+1:
I too agree the lighting needs some attention and also the reflections

Your photos are great, but I remember all the old buildings and temples from my time in india and I remember nothing shiny. In my memory even the Taj Mahal wasn’t shiny neither were the marble stones shiny near the Kipling national park.

But my memory could play tricks on me…

Correct.
The old temples and buildings are not shiny.
They are centuries old and lost their shine over time.

The new buildings comparatively ‘appear’ shiny, due to incorrect usage of lighting.

Nice to know that you traveled to India.
Which temples do you remember visiting?

I am also tricked by your questions @SASCHA1

On the one hand, you say the airport is too shiny.
And then you say the Taj and the temples are not shiny enough.

What exactly are your preferences about the appearance of places?

And sorry once again, I haven’t heard about any Kipling National Park in India.
