RECAP - Accessibility Meetup, Marine Drive, Kochi with a Photo-Walk in Fort Kochi - TravellerG

Dear friends,

The very presence of the handicapped “WOOD ART” entrepreneur LG Jolly Joseph made the Accessibility Meetup a grand success.

I reached Kochi on Saturday itself for the Sunday Meet-up. The next day morning, I reached Marine Drive by 9:50 am and very soon, dear co-host @Rahul001 also reached. Shortly, the next co-host Chakochan, along with LG @Gaffar1 arrived. Within a few minutes, our Senior LG Varghese ( @Sariga ) reached along with a specially-abled LG @JollyTakshan in his car. Our @AswanthSK joined us a bit later.

I sincerely thank the high-level support and active cooperation by LG Varghese, Rahul & Chackochan.

We all got introduced together as we were meeting for the first time. Also, we briefly chatted about :wheelchair: Accessibility with Jolly who came in his wheelchair; and, then proceeded to Fort Kochi.

We wanted to experience the Kochi Water Metro - hence, we took the ticket (Rs.40/person) and followed the queue - we waited for almost 20 minutes and we boarded the Metro Boat. LG Jolly had a special privilege for entry & got priority to board very first.

Travelling from High Court Station to Fort Kochi was a very new & exciting experience for most of us. In the same way, we waited & got out of the boat at the last with LG Jolly seated in the wheelchair.

We explored different locations and reached the Anand Bhavan Restaurant by 1:45, where we had our lunch.

Accessibility Discussions:

About Jolly Takshan: He narrated his sad story from a normal married person to a handicapped person with total paralysis down from his chest, due to the removal of a tumour in his backbone. Today, he is a dream model to many handicapped persons, running his own “Wood Art” business - (Here) which also employs disabled people. (Shall have a detailed post, separately)

About different Accessibilities:

He threw light on different challenges a handicapped person goes through; though the sentences were hurting, but gave a lot of information - I was very much moved by this session.

After lunch, we continued our exploration covering a few other destinations and reached the Fort Kochi Water Metro Station. We reached back to Marine Drive by 4:30 and got ready for the Virtual Meetup at 5 pm.

Photo Walk:

Our PhotoWalk covered Marine Drive, 2 Metro Stations, Ticket counters, a Chinese Fishing Net, a Fish Market, the Bastion Bungalow, a few churches, 1 Basilica, Ananta Bhavan, Fort Manor Road, a Few local shops, etc.

I along with @chackochann gave a live demonstration of different islands, High Court Station, Marine Drive Walkway, etc., during a very successful Virtual Meetup,

We concluded our meet-up after the Virtual Meet-up, by about 6 pm.

Hope, you got an idea about the meet-up.

This meet-up was successful due to the full support from @StephenAbraham .

My special thanks to all Physical Participants and Virtual Participants, including my motivators @TusharSuradkar , @AjitThite @Shrut19 @RosyKohli and many more

Happy to join in for the physical meet-up with @TravellerG and @Chackochhan . Meetup was really awesome and productive. Lg that attended gathered up and contributed around 700 points ( photos, videos and edits) which is really good. As I said earlier in my meet-ups, physical meet-up are productive as we contribute collectively. Glad to meet @JollyTakshan who is a wonderful and kind person. I get to know more about wheelchair accessiblilty from him. @Sariga gave us idea and his experiences in how Google maps works and how to better contribute and as a senior local guide I was thrilled to meet him. I get to meet travellerg in person for first time and was so happy. Got chance to meet @AswanthSK , a wonderful contributing guy. Gald to welcome @Gaffar1 to our community .Special Thanks t @Chackochhan and @nikhilinfinity for giving a idea and start of making this meetup.

@TravellerG @Rahul001 @chackochan congrats on your wonderful meetup. It’s a good start to get more people to join community meetups there to make new friends and share experiences. And also it’s a great blessing to have @JollyTakshan with the meetup. Hope that future meetups will gather more of the community members together.

Yes, dear @Rahul001 ,

I still have fresh memories of our Kochi meet up… surely it was a great day of enjoyment and learning.

Though the story of our @JollyTakshan is heart touching, is ever smiling face makes extremely comfortable - the ZEAL with which he was moving with us was something amazing, that too with a pleasant face - god bless him in all the ways.

I also especially thank you for travelling from Trivandrum and joining this mission… Let us hope we will be able to do more such meetups in future.

Regards with thanks

Sorry for being a bit late to respond to you dear, @StephenAbraham - after that meet up I was rushing for 30th June meet up which ended with almost 90 registrations, yesterday night.

You are very correct, dear Steve - the very company of our @JollyTakshan made this made up extremely special - his “Eveready” attitude was astonishing for me - always was praying that he should not have any strain - but he was enjoying every moment even more than us - once again thanks to our dear Jolly for your wonderful companionship - we enjoyed a lot. Of course the effort Putin by our @Rahul001 and @Chackochhan really deserves a lot of gratitude… thank you both.

Dear Steve, one of the important reasons for this being very successful was your motivation - thank you very much for the same - you are extremely special for us - for me, from the day 1 when I joined this community… Then onwards… Thank you very much.

Lord bless you.

Most sincerely
