Logistics:
The Theme of the Meet-Up was “Birmingham Foodie Meet-up”.
It took place Saturday, the 14th of September 2019. It was attended by myself, @Sandychelle & @proudlywoman (and her friend). I have been given permission by all to show photos of everyone, and I will only be posting my pictures, unless stated otherwise with permission to the person.
Hello!!! And welcome to the recap for the super fun day out I experienced with my new ‘besties’ Local Guides friends here in the UK!!! It was Foodie themed… and boy did we get our fill ?
Our main goals were to meet some Local Guides from the West Midlands in the UK, experience a successful meet-up, and perhaps make a friend or two!
We basically did exactly was we said we would do in the Meet-Up description, which can be found here:
We met up at Krispy Kreme donuts, and although only planned to be there for 30-minutes, we all ended up gabbing away for over an hour! ? We all had so much in common, and ended up all being super open to interesting conversations about life, travel, family, and of course what it’s been like being a Google Local Guide!
The first place we visited was the new Kitty Cafe in New Street Station! Although we didn’t go inside this time, we all agreed that place along would make for an amazing Meet-up location!
We stopped by a French bakery, where @proudlywoman friend gave us some photography tips for taking pictures of food items behind glass and in general. She mentioned… “the closer the better!”
Leaving the mall, we spotted some new artwork on the wall of a famous local artist, depicting the Birmingham city centre.
After the mall area, we headed towards the local arcade
It is in here where my favourite Macaron (or Macaroon) shop is located and we were in for a real treat!
To begin the staff gave us some samples
After the samples, we purchased one of every flavour (why not!?) and cut them into quarters so we could all sample everything with our mini glass of prosecco!
Photo opp with the ladies! Here is a link to my review for this place, where you can also see more photos:Knowing at the end of the day we were all planning to post our photos to Google Maps anyways, we stopped off along our foodie route and took pictures of things through the windows.
@Sandychelle is a Local Guide in Birmingham and knows her way around, so we let her guide the way, being like our own person Google Maps, pointing out building features and fun facts about the area we were in. She knew of some great photo opps too! Here were some quintessential red British telephone booths, so we took another photo opp!Harvey Nichols had a cool art exhibit so we stopped in to take a look.
We did a couple fact checks along the route as well. Couldn’t believe this place had a listing, but it indeed did!
Finally made it to the Brindley Food Festival! YUMYUMYUM! We were hungry!I opted for the Vietnamese Vegi Spring Rolls, and we all shared a couple portions of Halloumi fries too.
It was such a beautiful day with the sun shining, which allowed for such wonderful photos along our routes.
@Sandychelle showed us a hidden original stained glass hiding in the city centre!
We were finished walking around Birmingham City Centre all day, and as we all boarded out trains home, we felt it was a wonderful experience and well worth it! It was a very successful Meet-up and I hope we will all keep in touch going forward.
I am so happy each of us uniquely brought different talents and insights into taking pictures, foodie stuff, and contributing to Google Maps as a whole,
We all are looking forward to our next Meet-up, again for some more tasty food & treats, but also to catch up and learn more about one another! And of course, to contribute more photos, videos and reviews to Google Maps! ?
