Hello LGs,
As I suggested in my earlier post, the “Rediscover, Review, Revive” initiative from Local Guides honors and supports lesser-known small, local businesses that inspire our communities.
Let’s begin the treasure hunt!
One such gem is Nighojakar Mangal Karyalay Wada Pav in Narayan Peth, Pune—a legendary snack center that has been serving iconic Wada Pav since the 1960s.
Located in a century-old wada that serves as a wedding hall, this family-run business is a perfect example of Pune’s rich culinary heritage. It is located on the busy street of the old part of the city, Narayan Peth, near the riverbed.
Their wada pav—crispy, golden, and perfectly spiced—is a nostalgic delight, served with a hot, green fried salted chili that leaves a lasting taste. Enjoying it in an old seating style in the courtyard adds to the charm that you never want to miss. Sitting in a corner, an elderly woman manages the kitchen and customers. It gave me a homely feeling. Since the beginning, they have maintained their timing in the evening, 5 PM to 8:30 PM. I also observed that even Gen Z was enjoying it there in a relaxed environment. Despite modernization, this eatery maintains its roots, providing a taste of old Pune.
Supporting local businesses like Nighojakar is essential in a time when large chains prevail. It keeps our traditions alive, supports local business owners, and helps conserve Pune’s culinary culture. Let’s visit, review, and support this legendary restaurant in celebration of it.
Here is the link to my review of the place.
Contribute to the revival of this aspect of your own city’s past by sharing your experiences!
Cheers!
