San Jose Japanese Friendship Garden

This Japanese Garden is in Kelly Park San Jose. Park is around 6 acres, established in 1965` Entrance to the park is free. However there is a $10 fee for parking. You can also find free street parking near by. Great location for photo shoots or just relax in the garden. Garden has three ponds. Pond under the bridge is Koi pond.

This garden got affected by flood in San Jose, couple of years ago. Now restoration is going on in the garden specially Koi pond. Now the Koi pond is dry, Koi fish are moved to another pond in the garden. Now fund raising in progress to restore the garden.

In spite of this it is still a nice place to visit in San Jose.

Koi pond is under restoration and dry after the flood couple of years back.

Hello @jayasimha78 ,

Thank you for sharing these amazing photos with us, great post as usual!

Do you know the reason why this place is called Friendship Garden? Does it commemorate the friendship of two countries, or there is another story behind?

@BorrisS Thanks!. It is probably friendship between two countries, not very sure about that. According to wikipedia, this garden was modeled after Korakuen garden in Okayama, one of San Jose’s sister cities.

Hi! @jayasimha78

It ’s a 40-minute walk from “San Jose Marriott” to “Japanese Friendship Garden”.
Thank you for teaching me.

@jayasimha78 the beautiful Friendship Garden is inside San Jose History Park (Kelley Park) so you if you signed up for one of the break out sessions in that park perhaps you’d get to see it.

You can also take a bus most of the way there which cuts the walk down to 20 minutes.
