Scooter and motorcycle rental in Lisbon

On your next trip to Portugal, I recommend renting a motorcycle in Lisbon or a scooter. In this article, I’ll explain why and share my experience.

I love traveling by motorcycle. I’ve traveled almost everywhere by motorcycle and I appreciate the freedom and independence you feel when riding a motorcycle.

There are different categories of motorcycles:
50cc: speed less than 50 km/h
75cc: speed 50-70 km/h
125cc: speed 80 km/h
250cc: speed 100 km/h
400cc: speed 100 km/h and above

For the sake of simplicity, I’ll only talk about motorcycles under 250cc.

Equipment: half-face helmet, motorcycle boots, and a top case.

For tourists, you’ll probably rent a standard motorcycle or scooter. Large motorcycles are too bulky and only suitable for long journeys. I recommend scooters and large scooters if your travel area is less than 100 km. A 50cc tank of gas costs only €10 and will probably get you 25 km/liter!

Many scooters have a trunk. If you’re a photographer, your lenses can fit directly in the trunk, and you can carry your tripod on your shoulder. Gas and parking are very affordable for a scooter or motorcycle. Most scooters park like bicycles and fit easily in tight spaces.

In Portugal, there are two main routes to consider: Lisbon-Porto and Lisbon-Faro. These two routes will take you to the coast without using the highways. Their main advantage is that you’ll be driving along the coast! Most Portuguese coastal roads are beautiful and offer great opportunities to enjoy the sea breeze and glorious sunshine. A car simply isn’t worthy of Portuguese roads. Only a motorcycle offers such a pleasant experience in the great outdoors.
