Selime Cathedral

Selime Cathedral has hosted many civilizations due to its location. Selime Cathedral has the largest monastery, kitchen, and one of the churches of Cappadocia. It is estimated that the cathedral has a capacity of approximately 50 to 70 thousand people. Selime is considered a major trade stop of the region, so camels and The roads of the caravanserais built for the accommodation of people are evident on the left side of the entrance (the photos do not cover that area). The approximately 14-story building hosts the most important clergy for the region on its top floors. Another remarkable feature of the cathedral is its pyramid-shaped kitchen and frescoes in many shapes. Selime Cathedral is 10 minutes away from the Ihlara valley and can be visited together with the valley. The entrance fee of the cathedral is 70TL as of 2022, it is a place I recommend.

Hello @EmirOzyasar and thank you for your post and photos. Are you from the Cappadocia area or were you just visiting. Has there always been an entrance fee? I ask as having been to the Selime Cathedral myself, I cannot recall that there was an entrance fee!

Thank you @EmirOzyasar . While based in Göreme for a few months, I was fortunate enough to travel extensively through the Cappadocia region and I enjoyed every single minute of it. I have written about some of my time there in various posts on Connect (e.g. this brief comment) and I have said this before, unless one visits Cappadocia it is really hard to get the real feel for this amazing place. I am certain that you will have visited the amazing 8-story underground city of Derinkuyu in Nevsehir.
