Shankar Bhairav Restaurant in Jodhpur- A Pure Veg Delight

During my solo trip to Jodhpur last year, I avoided the crowded food joints in town and decided to try a restaurant outside the city limits for a peaceful meal.

Surprisingly there were not many pure vegetarian restaurants along the highway for a long time and I was getting hungry as I was driving for a long time.

After some more driving, I spotted the Shankar Bhairav Restaurant.
Food Tip: Pure vegetarian restaurants in India are most likely named after Gods like Srinath, Sai Krupa, Datta Krupa, Jai Ganesh, and so on…

The restaurant had a wide entrance.

The storefront had a photo of the Thali dish - an assortment of various food items all served together in a single order.

They also had free cool drinking water and a wash basin outside.

This is the view from the inside looking past the cash counter.

It shows plenty of parking space.

This is the spacious seating arrangement.

I could view the trucks and other vehicles passing by on the highway in the backdrop of the mountains while enjoying a peaceful meal.

This is the Veg Thali consisting of tandoori roti, papad, salad, chilies, chopped onion, lemon slices, rice curd, paneer sabji, and boondi raita.

It was a lavish spread, and the taste was great.

They also had an elaborate, accessible washroom with a wide handwash basin with soap and a mirror.

Here is their menu for à La Carte orders.

Finally, here is the souvenir cap that I purchased a few hours before the meal at the Military Museum in Jodhpur - more on that in the next post.

I have explored Rajasthan in pockets, mainly Marwar region, Udaipur, and Nathdwara temple. It is time to continue exploring the most picturesque part.

Same story here @AjitThite

A lot of major places in Rajasthan remain unexplored for me.

Also, the food is authentic and cheap across the state, especially on the highway.

So, I always plan to be on the highway at lunch and dinner time

Thank you for your wholehearted praise for my casual posts @AnubhaBangia

It brings cheers to my face when I read such honest comments.

I can give a tip about this…

When we write a post about Indian topics - food, places, everyday life, always keep in mind a reader who is several thousand miles in another continent, living in a small town, and has barely explored his surroundings or has never visited or heard about India.

Then go out and explain tiny details that are very obvious to us but for the foreign reader, they are amusing and novel to see in our photos.

For example, when I lived in Delhi, Gurugram the pedaled rickshaws were completely new to me since they are completely unknown and unseen in the part of India where I live.

So, it amused me a lot. I clicked endless photos of the human-operated rickshaws

that looks like one delicious thali @TusharSuradkar dada.

It’s true, dada—the majority of vegetarian restaurants keep the names of gods.

Wow, @TusharSuradkar this vegetarian restaurant has a really great post. The food is nicely caught, and I especially enjoy how the green chili is presented in a salad cup—something we don’t often see in our area. The surroundings are also modest and welcoming to all guests. The cap is gorgeous, especially the color, and the Indian Army Pride batch only makes it better
