Hello, family Greetings from Karachi,
Shaheen Gullagain
Pakistan is a wonderful country with all its diversity, and almost every community lives here from the whole South Asia region. Especially when we are talking about Karachi, we can see many similarities to our neighbor country India, because we just do not share language, culture, food, or traditions but we somehow share lifestyles as well.
Recently I saw a video from India, where the people from the LGBTQ+ community were working for the betterment of society, like controlling traffic, working as couriers person, doctors, and other professions, which always makes me happy.
Because of social norms, the LGBTQ+ community in this region has been put on the most decline, and this belief is the biggest example of inequality. I donāt know if the Connect themes include this or not.
But I want the LGBTQ+ of my country to be a part of this community.
So, yesterday I organized a meetup to which I invited the LGBTQ+ community, the meet-up was at a friendās home, who is one of the active transgender community members and a lovely person.
I reached there a little bit (20 minutes late) at 5:00 pm on my Motorbike to Junaijo Town, as Karachiās traffic went crazy because of unexpected rain and lots of mess like broken roads, which is the result of the last 2 months of continuous rain.
Sadia welcomed me with a very warm gesture and there were already 5 more friends who were waiting for me, because I already asked them to wait for me, and I want to share something with them.
All these friends have Android phones, which was best for me to demonstrate what I want to share with them.
I began with to teach them the use Google maps, which they know already, but the features like Timeline on Google maps, creating Google maps lists, traffic situations by Google maps live updates, especially getting guidance about any specific place on Google maps reviews and photos was new for them which is the great work of Local Guides Volunteers all over the world.
My thinking was that the basic knowledge of Google maps will make them familiar with Google Maps Contributions so they can know how Google maps are reaching even the small places with the help of local guide volunteers like us.
They were so fast at getting all the basic information. So in the next step, I brief them about the basic Local Guides Contributions and What they should do and what not on Google maps. For example, they learn in this session that they shouldnāt post selfies and group photos, and if they are posting a photo on Google maps, it should be like a visual story of a place, and they should describe a place with their photos.
I shared with them how they can change the language of Google maps from English to Urdu because most of these friends could read, understand and speak Urdu so well, but had problems with English reading and understanding.
Finally, when the session ended, they clapped and showed their happiness by hugging me, and I was delighted that I had something in my soul, it was happiness from inside.
They insisted on me for dinner, Which was not possible for me to refuse, because they cooked dinner, especially for me, Karhee Pakora & Rice, which was so delicious.
Finally I want to say something to the people of my Country, the āTā of the LGBTQ+ community, means transgenders are so much lovely and warm hearted people, they just donāt come in this world just for entertain you, by dancing and begging, for you, if we can support them we can find people likeDoctor Sara Gill & Doctor Mehrab Moiz among them, just need to encourage them to education and technology, we will get a lot of gems for our country.
