Sibayak Mountain (2094) MDPL
Sibayak Mountain is a mountain that has its own exotic beauty. Compared to some of the surrounding mountains, this mountain which has a height of 2094 masl is a mountain that has extraordinary natural charm in the eyes of climbers. Like me, when I was in the mountains I felt amazed by its natural beauty. Next, I will tell you a number of things related to Mount Sibayak and my experience in conquering the summit.
Mount Sibayak is located in the Karo highlands with an altitude of 2,094 m above sea level. The mountain peak is already in ruins due to eruptions in the past. The condensation factor in this mountain is very high which causes frequent visible fog that clustered in the peak area and is a volcano that is still active, and has a sloping crater to descend and does not seem too dangerous as long as it is not too close, the clump comes from geothermal and useful as a source of electrical energy. In Karo Regency there is a steam power plant area near Mount Sibayak.
From what I saw, it was clearly seen the condition of the sloping crater (seen from behind the steam power plant area), which seemed to split the mountain. Around 3:00 p.m. WIB, the fog began to appear around the top of the mountain to the bottom, and not long after, the fog began to spread to the Mountain Spirit Village. We also need to know with Mount Sibayak commonly known as “Mount Raja”. Sibayak means king in the Karo Batak language.
Although climbing Mount Sibayak is the first climb for me, I can say that Mount Sibayak is relatively easy to reach its peak. Although this is my first experience climbing the mountain, but I know a lot about mountains. Since I was 10 years old I have fallen in love with mountains, forests and so on. Therefore, there are many routes that I know of several mountains popular among climbers in Indonesia.
Last week I did the Sibayak mountain climbing together with Mapala STAIN ZAWIYAH COT KALA LANGSA through the “Traveling and Fun Hiking 2014” event. I thought at that time the climb was carried out through the lau sidebuk-debuk lane which was in the village of mountain spirit. Which according to my knowledge the track is not too difficult and not too easy and is perfect for beginners like me. But my guess was wrong, which in the end was carried out through the path of the village of Jaran Guda, whose path was much easier to pass. From the climbing post I passed a paved road that continued uphill to get to the place where climbers usually set up tents or commonly called limestone. From here the climbing tracks change which used to be asphalt is now an arrangement of stairs that are intentionally made to facilitate climbing to the top.
Sibayak climbing post
Sibayak climbing posts from this line are located in the village of Jaran Guda. From here I and the group members began to step through the paved road. Previously we were offered a public transport ride that usually carried climbers, but only half the journey, with a tariff of Rp. 8,000 / person. But for us, walking while enjoying views of the natural Sibayak forest is far more fun than sitting in an angkot.
After praying, the whole group moved along the uphill road. About 100 m walk the group began to separate, some in front and some behind. Whereas I and my two friends were in the middle. My physical condition was still more than normal, feeling tired had not been felt in my body. But one of my friends looked staggering. The backpack he was carrying had been pinned to a friend who was in front but still he didn’t seem to have enough energy to catch up with those in front. Finally we decided to stop and take a break while waiting for the group behind.
Until we waited for ten minutes, they did not appear. Then I gave a suggestion to continue the trip, because if they were still waiting for their fear those who were behind would overtake, so we were most likely to be at the back. Given the physical condition of a weak friend in front of us, we will stop and rest again. My guess was true. Right above the climb we rested, some people from the group behind us followed us and overtook us. “Bang, are there still more people behind?” I asked one of them. “Yes, just wait for a while too,” he replied while walking ahead of us. I began to panic, and at the very moment the back of the group had overtaken us, surely we would have left behind all the groups, even more days that were getting darker and added with cloudy weather like rain. If it rains me
do not know where to go because there is no shade except under the big forest trees. And for sure everything in the keril will be wet, I thought. Finally I urged that I immediately continue the journey. And before long we walked already seen several people in front of him were sitting resting together in a hut that might be a second post.
Both of my friends immediately joined them, other than me, I chose to continue alone and follow friends who were in front. The rain began to fall, the worry of being wet had not become a burden on the mind, but the fear that began to haunt me. Every now and then I looked back to make sure there was someone behind me, but no one followed me, then I accelerated my footsteps to catch up with those who were ahead. Until I crossed my intersection, the one climbed down and another climbed upward, confidently I chose the right and climbed the not so high incline. The rain continued to wet my body, not even one person found me in front. I was confused again, whether I continued to walk after the front man or stop waiting behind in the midst of endless rain.
I crossed my head about the determination of a climber, and the climax of a climber’s spirit, “is the time of the Mount Sibayak afraid?” I thought to myself. Without much consideration I continued my footsteps which continued to climb with such a great distance. And I saw above that there were 4 members of my group who were sitting on a rock. I speed up my steps and join them. Not so far after walking together and chatting in the streets, the tents of the climbers began to rise. I thought “finally arrived at limestone”. This is where we set up tents in the middle of the rain covered by sibayak mountain fog.
Mystical experience of Mount Sibayak
I haven’t told this experience at all to anyone. Even though I really want to tell my friends and relatives. But I’m not sure they believe what I’ve experienced. After all, if I tell my friends at that time, they are afraid to become parno.
At that time, some of the groups worked to set up tents, some of them were securing backpacks, keril and other equipment from the rain. And some of them sit resting while taking shelter under a plastic tent. Whereas I took the initiative to look for wooden branches for campfires. Twilight began to appear, the rain never stopped. I entered the forest that was not too far from where I set up the tent. At that time I was not alone, I was accompanied by Krebo. Because it was cool for me to look for the wet branches, I didn’t realize that sikrebo left me. At first I relaxed, and had thought that Sikrebo would return to the branch I had collected. Suddenly a tree branch was broken. “Criticism … criticism” something like that said. I looked back thinking that it was krebo. I was surprised, after turning around it turned out that no one was behind me. I began to get nervous, my hand that was pulling a tree that was like a rope began to tremble. I accelerated my movements and pulled the branches as hard as I could. How shocked I saw a figure of black shadow pinned on a tree branch where the twig twisted. I fell back and removed the branch. Then I ran and took some of the branches I had collected earlier and returned to the place to set up a tent. I don’t know what that figure looks like, I don’t know, for sure, I obviously really saw it pinched on the tree branch. Until I was fined I sat pensively, and analyzed the events I had just experienced. “Usually, the name is also a mountain, it has become its place” I thought. After all the tents stood, I immediately forgot about the incident. What an amazing experience, friend.
First Night Above the Mountain
Not the first bride-style night, but this is my first experience sleeping and staying in the mountains. After I finished, some of the groups were inside the tent while waiting for dinner to be prepared. Whereas me and the other group were indulging in the warmth of a bonfire in his bone hut. Bone is a trader who makes huts at the campsite. This is the first time I know that on the mountain money turns out that money can still be used. For a while I was silent, suddenly one of my friends from the group experienced a great cold. Immediately we provided assistance and warmed his body, with a bonfire and blanket, of course. Indeed, the night was so cold, I had a chance to shiver for a while.
After dinner together, I immediately went to the tent and took the place to straighten my tired body and pray
Behind the sarong I wore from the cold. But my legs still feel cold, but I’m not wearing socks. If my sarong is lowered, then my upper body will feel cold. On the contrary, I was wrong to do anything. Feeling upset, I wrapped the sarong on my feet and concluded that the tip was like a pockin. Finally I was able to sleep in a rather forceful way.
At 1:30 a.m., I woke up, the cold was getting piercing. And I began to shiver time. My body is shivering violently. I decided to wake up, but only I myself was awakened. It’s a jealous feeling to see other friends sleep well in these conditions. I felt hesitant to wake them up, but I was also reluctant to move where I was sleeping. In the night, I kept silent and tried to sleep again. The body is still shivering, and is becoming increasingly cold. It crossed my head, "if it’s in the mountains don’t get attacked by hypothermia. If the body has been cold and has lost its temperature, then death awaits immediately ". I panicked, and immediately got up from where I lay. I looked for a flashlight and went out of the tent. It’s amazing, it’s cold outside. My hands did not stop shaking until the flashlight was irregular. The finger feels stiff, it is difficult to move. Suddenly one of my friends also woke up because I heard my movements outside. As I see, he is also cold like me. We also tried to turn on the fire with makeshift wet twigs, but the results failed. Not far from our tent there were other climbers who were burning a fire, finally we went there and joined them. This is where I feel how beautiful sharing warmth is. We were welcomed by friends. We don’t know each other, but feel closer to friends. Soon we have laughed together with each other. A cup of coffee was immediately served to us. Until the coldness of my body began to disappear. Sunggu is beautiful, only this time I have felt togetherness, shared feelings, likes, thoughts, and laughter, one for all, all for one.
Towards the Peak
Around 4:00 a.m., we began preparing for the summit. Looks like a thick fog. Cold back piercing. Visibility is only a few meters. I was so excited at that time.
The track to the top is not so difficult, the stairs have been arranged up to the top. While on the left is a fairly deep ravine. And a lot of forest pandanus trees are found along this track. After crossing the vegetation boundary, the scent of sulfur began to smell. The roar of sulfur gas activity in the bottom sounds like the sound of an airplane passing overhead. Between the rocks, I walked along the path until I could see the peak in front of my eyes. I smiled happily, and accelerated my pace to the top. Amazingly beautiful, even though it is covered in fog it does not reduce the beauty of the sibayak mountain peaks. Too bad I have not had the opportunity to watch the sunrise at that time because of the thick fog covering. All that is seen is the bottomless cliff. And I just found out, it turned out that it was even colder in the peak than in the place where we camped together. Plus the wind was so strong that it felt cold to the point of being broken. I shiver again friend.
Suddenly several members of the group began to move towards the highest peak or commonly called disebut Pilar’sibayak. Actually I was worried, can I be there with this condition? Seeing the track is very extreme the path between the deep ravines. “If you haven’t reached the pillar, then I haven’t succeeded in climbing sibayak,” I thought. Without thinking, I followed them up a slippery cliff. When I hold on to a rock and lean on it, the surroundings I see are ravines. I was very scared, plus my condition was still shivering. All I think about is my family, friends and friends. "I certainly can, a little more, and I won’t die here. I have to be able to stay on my footprint at the top. "I thought. Finally, extraordinary peak Sibayak 2094 masl, I stand on it, close to the sky, above the clouds …
Here I can take lessons, really how beautiful God’s creation …
“So which of your gods do you deny?”
maybe for now, that’s all I can tell, sorry if there are errors and shortcomings …
