Staple Food: North Karnataka India.

hello friends,

For us, The day starts with a cup of tea, as may be with the most of the country. And have probably POHA for breakfast.

But in the lockdown My routine has changed a bit. I have started having two meals a day. That’s why the first meal is the important one for me.

As you can see in the picture, the THALI consists of.

ROTI: We usually have JOWAR(SORGHUM) bread , which we call a Roti. It provides, energy for the whole day.

CURRY: the curry you see here is called MUDDE PALYA, It consists of all green vegetables cooked with peanuts and green chillies to a certain consistency{which depends}. It is full of flavours.

other curries which are our daily drivers are, includes Brinjal curry, Ladies finger curry, curry with the pulses etc.

the next one is,

GROUND NUT CHUTNEY: The is the most versatile and consistent delicacy you can find in any household throughout the year. It is full of nutrition and flavour.

Basically the groundnuts are roasted and ground, along with red chilli powder and a bit of oil, till it attains granular form. It goes fine with Rice Roti, anything.

I like to have it with a mix of GHEE and Roti.

flax seeds powder also goes in hand with this one.

AAMRAS: Its the hero of the summer platter. It is basically Mango Juice but has a thick consistency. No one ever denies for Mango, such is the flavour of the fruit, that’s why called as KING OF FRUITS. Also India has a vast diversity of Mango fruit. I just love this fruit.

Hence there are different varieties for different purposes, like for juice making, eating, pickle making etc.

Specifically for this kind of traditional home made kind of food, we have eateries named as KHANAVALIES: you can find them across Karnataka and Maharashtra. Added to these dishes, they also serve the local delicacies .

A bit of Karnataka food is similar to that of Maharashtra food as well.

Hope you Enjoy !

Wow @Nachiket_methre these simple and wholesome meals are truly satisfying and healthy.

It seems similar to Maharashtrian dishes.

I love the ground nut chutney it adds flavour to normal food as well

Summers are incomplete without having aamras in our meals

We usually eat at khanavalies while travelling as they serve authentic local food in home style

Would you like to share Google map link of some khanavalies around you ?

@Nachiket_methre I used to live in Bijapur district when I was young, since my father was working in irrigation department. We love Jolada Rotti. Even now when I visit Mysore on the way we stop at Kamat Yatrinivas for a Jolada Rotti Thali. Thanks for sharing this.
