"Suggest approved edit"???

There are some terms on Google that I still find ambiguous. Please what does this term "suggest approved edits mean? Its either I have a misconception of it or I never understood it at all or they are not updated on my profile. Need further clarifications @Bobiisha . Thanks in advance

Best regards

Hello @SholaIB

I agree the wording may perplex a novice.

Possibly to fit within the screen a very long sentence like “suggest edits and then receive approval to 25 number of edits” brevity is used.

Nevertheless, you can suggest a change in wording through the idea exchange.

Hi @SholaIB

When you make an edit you get a thank you screen that mentions the points value. This can really easily be read as you just earned 15 points. But you don’t actually get the points until your edit has been approved. In you edit contributions list you can see some edits are pending those are the not-yet-approved edits.

According to your screenshot you only have 7 approved edits so far.

The process of getting edits approved is mostly done by computers. A few get checked by other local guides or Googles staff.

Hope this helps.

Hi, @SholaIB

In my opinion, every edit that we make on Google Maps is actually just a suggestion to the Google Maps team to update the information on the maps according to the information we’ve given to them. They will then checking it and giving their approval/disapproval.

We’re not editing/updating the maps, we only suggest the team to update the maps.

That’s why, in my opinion, the wording is “suggest approved edits.”

Hello @C_T

Thank you for the reply. It’s not a bad idea to suggest a change in wording especially for a novice on connect or on the maps. May consider that. Thanks

Hi @SholaIB

If you have made hundreds of edits that was not approved you may want to reconsider your strategies. Only making one single edit at a time is an effective way to better learn what edits do get approved quickly. With more edits in one submission you will never know whichs ones were good or bad.

That’s also true @MortenCopenhagen . Am only learning thanks. I love map editing really. It’s not only helpful to others but its our own way of contributing and influencing our world. Thanks for the advise

Further, I find @SholaIB

There are 266 approved edits to your credit. However, only seven are counted on the fact-finder badge.

Edits can also become private for the following reasons.

  1. Merging or deleting of a POI where that was suggested.

  2. Multiple edits for the same POI get counted as one on the badge.

  3. The undoing of an edit also removes that from the badge.

Though there would not be any loss in aggregate points,

private edits do affect the fact-finder badge.

  1. Also, tagging of dishes at restaurants are counted as edits but these do not qualify for the badge.

Thank you @C_T . Like I said I work alot at map editing and don’t see the results. Please How do I make the edits public if they are private? Or how do I know their status either private or public?

Thanks

Yes @Wisnusetiono unfortunately I have so many edits pending. Its good to be wise and know what edits has been approved or not. It also slows you down because you don’t just want to be editing and no approval.

Thanks for checking out my posts.
