Last week I wrote a post about Small actions you can make to support local businesses during COVID-19, inspired by @KatieMcBroom 's post: Which small businesses are you supporting right now?. And since then, I’ve been more conscious about local businesses and me and my family are doing what we can to support them. So, I wanted to tell you about my latest reviews in Google Maps of local businesses from which we’ve been ordering to-go or using delivery apps to buy from them, what are their actions on COVID-19 and what makes them special for me. And, the best part, they’re all (except 1) less than 15 minutes from where we live!
Tortillón de Mamá Blanca: this is a local chain restaurant that specializes in cheese tortillas. We ordered using a delivery app and the food came hot and it was freshly prepared. My favorite tortilla is the one with sweet plantain, in Costa Rica it’s very common to eat sweet plantain with cheese.
El Testy: this place reminds my parents when they were young, but it is about 45 minutes from where we live, but the other day we got delicious costarrican tacos from them.
Arte Blanco: this is a bakery that we’ve known for a while now, we love to go in the afternoon and get some pastries for the coffee-time or we order bread when we have a special event. The products are really delicious and the quality is great. Right now they’re offering free delivery or food to-go.
Pan Comido: this is also a bakery, they just moved to a new place, we didn’t knew it before but we discovered it about a month ago and we were kind of sad that they’re opening a new place in the middle of a crisis. But we ordered to go a variety of pastries and ate them with coffee and they were great. They’re also providing free delivery around the area.
Tierra Bendita: this is a fruit and vegetable shop located 5 minutes from our home, we’ve been shopping here for about two years now ans it’s great because they always have fresh produce and a great variety. Right now they’re only allowing 5 persons in the store at a time and they installed a faucet so the costumers can wash their hands.
Lácteos La Quesera: this is a cheese and other milk productos that has been near our home for a while now, but it wasn’t until a year ago that we started buying here. At first we only buyed eggs, because they’re free-range and the quality is great, and then we started buying Turrialba cheese, a type of fresh cheese originally from Costa Rica. At this time they’re only allowing 3 persons at a time and have alcohol so that every costumer can use it before and after shopping. They’re also providing free delivery around the area.
Arasá: this restaurant is one of our favorites, it is 10 minutes from our home and the food is great. We’ve been visiting since they opened about 4 years ago, we love it because of the delicious food and the great attention from the staff. Right now they offer food to-go or via delivery apps, we went to get our food and the quality was great as always.
SIBO: I discovered their skincare products in January, I bought a face soap for sensitive skin and I was amazed by the quality of the product. About three weeks ago I bought more products and they were delivered on time, and the delivery was free because the shop is closed for now. The best part (aside from the great products) is the lovely owner, who takes the time to reccomend the products that are best for you.
Many of these businesses are part of my this list: Negocios locales favoritos en CR, which I’ll be updating during the next weeks.
Some of them don’t have photo because I was hungry and the food smelled really good, oops!
I’m a foodie and if I’m not spending my time cooking, I’m supporting food related businesses.
