Prior to the redesign, it was critical to always tag the person you were responding to. Now things are a little easier.
This guide is part of the Transition Tutorials.
Summary
When you hit reply, the person you’re responding to is now automatically notified. And the drop-down list of suggested usernames is much better now.
Automatic tagging when you reply
Do you remember all the annoying posts on old Connect just to remind folks to always tag who they were responding to? Those days are now over.
When you hit reply under another reply, the person is automatically tagged.
Then you see this:
This is clearly a response to Amiran, as shown at the top. So there’s no need to also manually tag him here. This is much more intuitive.
Please note that when you respond to the first post in a topic, the author is not automatically tagged. Connect’s default notification will make the original author Watching her own topics, so she will be notified that way. Learn more about notifications here.
Manual tagging also works a lot better
Sometimes manual tagging is still necessary. If you want to alert or involve someone who is not already in the discussion, please tag them manually.
Like before, you start tagging by typing the @-sign. Then a list with suggestions appears.
Immediately after hitting @, the last person you tagged will show in bold at the top of the list, as shown below:
When you start typing a username, the list adapts more quickly.
After typing @fal, the list shows relevant picks. And notice how moderators are now shown in bold at the top. Helpful, right?
On old Connect, this suggestion list often broke, and the @ were difficult to delete. All this is fixed now.
Finally, on old Connect, you could not tag more than 10 people. I believe this limit is now much higher. But still, please do not tag just to get likes.
This is the end of this tutorial.
