Street Graffiti art is a form of creative illustration where the artist articulates his/her opinions on a subject/topic. Until recently in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Graffiti or any form of street art was considered as a punishable act. The recent decree issued by the concerned Arts and Cultural ministry have highlighted the significance of creating a vibrant society and promoting the arts and culture in the kingdom. To support the mission of promoting arts, an old neighborhood area in Al Khobar city was selected for the street graffiti arts project work. The local artists visited the site with the aim to beautify the overlooked old neighborhood areas.
Many of the paintings/murals in this street illustrate scenery and people. Arabesque designs are used predominantly along with the remarkable usage of the Arabic calligraphy. The downside in my opinion regarding the location are the vehicles which were parked right in front of the wall paintings, thereby, restricting the visitors from taking full shots of the walls.
The government (KSA) is doing commendable job in encouraging the local artists to open to such ideas and giving them the platform to showcase their abilities. I personally hope this project is just the steppingstone towards expanding the work of art in Saudi Arabia.
This is another step forward to the development sphere of creative arts in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. I know Al Khobar a lot because my brother works as a geotechnical engineer there and around the Eastern Region in Dammam. I will surely let him know about this haha
That is really cool @fasi6083 it is good that the government has joined the ranks of governments that see the artistic outlet as a valuable part of society. I enjoy street art in all forms. My own city of Melbourne has a vibrant street art culture.
My friend Ania @AniaKiser will likely be interested in this post too when she comes back from her trip.
Thanks for the comment @MAHBUB_HYDER The paintings are on the walls, few houses were selected by the ministry in the old neighborhood area and with the permission of home owners the artists decorated the exterior walls with creative figurative and words illustrations.
The KSA government have started putting a lot of efforts towards promoting the various forms of cultural activity. The government have started investing in the projects to educate the locals on different forms of art creativity and expressions. Thanks for the comment @PaulPavlinovich
