The USS Midway in San Diego, USA deserves an entire day to be explored.
It is an aircraft carrier now converted into a 3-story museum and permanently docked.
The 4 parts in this series are:
Part 1 - Enter the aircraft carrier and monuments on the way.
Part 2 - Main deck Exhibits.
Part 3 - UpperDeck Exhibits.
Part 4 - Lower deck Exhibits.
The top deck of this aircraft carrier is also the top attraction.
There is a simple stairway to reach there.
On the way, marvel at the raft boat that can rescue 27 people at the same time
The exhibits on the upper deck are mostly fighter planes from the WW-2 era.
These fighter planes come in all shapes, sizes, names, and colors, mostly white.
Their names and configuration, roles, and such information are displayed on the boards adjacent to them.
Many of these are only reconnaissance planes, meaning they do not participate in the war but are used for observation and spying on enemy territories.
I couldn’t help but notice the various bombs and bullets that were loaded on these fighter crafts.
The upper deck is so huge that there are benches everywhere for people to rest if they feel tired after walking.
Another adventure feature of the upper deck on the USS Midway in San Diego is the low-hanging cantilever platform which gives a direct view of the sea beneath. This must have been quite an adventure when the ship was moving and huge waves were beneath
Besides the fighter planes, there were rescue helicopters of various types on exhibit.
Some were cargo helicopters that transported men, machines, and material from the shores to the battleship.
These were open for inspection from inside, giving a complete idea of how soldiers boarded them, the cockpit view, and the controls inside.
Here are the inside views of a fighter helicopter called the assault helicopter.
Being a museum they did not miss hosting a make-shift souvenir shop where one could purchase model aircraft, T-shirts, badges, keychains, and such stuff.
The USS Midway Aircraft Carrier Museum is the top place to visit in San Diego.
The 4 parts in this series are:
