I’ll be showcasing some of my photo edits and sharing a few editing tips. I’m not an expert, but I hope these small tips help enhance your own edits!

Transform Your Photos with Snapseed

Before and After: Simple Edits, Big Impact

Photo 1: Monument Transformation: From Dull to Dynamic.

Before (Original Image)

  • The sky appears dull, and the overall image lacks contrast and sharpness. This is common in unedited photos with overcast lighting.

After (Snapseed Edits)

  • Tune Image: Brightness and contrast adjustments make the details of the pole stand out.
  • Details Tool: The sharpness has been enhanced, highlighting the intricate carvings.
  • Vignette Effect: A subtle darkening around the edges draws focus toward the center, emphasizing the monument.
  • Selective Adjustments: Likely used to brighten the sky while retaining detail in the monument.

Result (Creative Enhancement)

  • Light Leaks: Adds a warm, artistic feel to the photo, giving it a more dynamic, creative look.
  • Color Grading: The cool tone in the “After” was warmed up slightly in the final result, adding balance between blue and orange hues.

Pro Tips:

  • Experiment with Filters: Snapseed’s filters can be used to achieve a dramatic look like in the “Result” image.
  • Lightroom Fine-Tuning: After using Snapseed, import into Lightroom to fine-tune colors and details for professional-grade results.

This approach adds vibrancy to a dull photo while keeping the monument’s details sharp and engaging. Let me know if you’d like any adjustments!

Photo 2: Plant Against the Sky

Editing can turn an ordinary photo into something special. In this shot of a plant, I used Snapseed to enhance the colors, contrast, and detail.

Before: The image looks natural but lacks depth and color contrast.

After (Snapseed Edits)

  • Color Grading: A purple hue was added to the background, creating a striking contrast with the yellow grass.
  • Selective Adjust: The subject (grass) has been brightened, making it the focal point of the image.
  • Lens Blur: A dreamy blur effect has been applied to the background, making the subject pop more.

Tip: Play with background colors to create unique moods in your photos, like adding a purple tint to contrast natural colors.

Photo 3: Plant in Water

Before: The original image is a bit flat, with muted colors and low contrast.

After (Snapseed Edits)

  • Saturation Boost: The greens have been enhanced, making the plant look more vibrant.
  • Details Tool: The texture of the leaves is now sharper and clearer.
  • Vignette: Subtle darkening around the edges brings attention to the plant.
  • Tip: Use selective saturation to make specific elements of your photo stand out without oversaturating the background.

Photo: 4 Coconut Trees (Before and After with Snapseed)

Lens Flare Effect:

  • In the “After” image, I added a striking lens flare using the Lens Distortion app, creating a radiant, dynamic effect.

Color Enhancement:

  • The greens in the coconut tree and surroundings are more vibrant, likely due to Snapseed’s “Tune Image” tool adjusting contrast, saturation, and brightness.

Shadows and Highlights:

  • Shadows in the “After” photo are balanced, and highlights softened to prevent overexposure, likely using the “Highlights” and “Shadows” sliders in Snapseed…

Mood and Atmosphere:

  • The overall mood has shifted from a regular day scene to something more cinematic and surreal, making the image more eye-catching.

Tip: To replicate this, use Snapseed’s “Drama” filter combined with “Lens Flare” Use Lens Distortion App for Lens Flare and balance the brightness to create a magical glow.

Photo: 5 Flower (Color Variations)

Color Pop and Filters:

  • You’ve edited the same flower photo with different color tones. This could be achieved using the “Selective” tool or playing around with color filters in Snapseed.

Grayscale Edit:

  • One of the variations turned the yellow flower to grayscale, emphasizing texture. This can be done with the “Black & White” filter, adjusting the brightness and contrast to maintain the details.

Intense Saturation:

  • In another version, the flower has a greenish hue, which could be a combination of “Curves” and “Tuning Image” in Snapseed, altering the overall hue and saturation levels.

Warm Orange Tone:

  • The final variation shows the flower in a warm orange hue. This could have been achieved using the “White Balance” or “Toning” tools to shift the color warmth.

Tip: To create diverse looks from a single photo, play with the “Selective” tool for individual colors and the “White Balance” for overall warmth and tones.

This content shares how to use Snapseed to turn dull photos into vibrant ones with simple tools like brightness, contrast, sharpening, and selective adjustments. Though I’m not an expert, it’s my small way of sharing what I know to help enhance your edits!

Hello fellow LG @AjaykumarG

I appreciate your efforts, and thank you for the same.

Yes, I too am of the opinion as our @Annaelisa … I’m a photographer who believe in maintaining naturality to the maximum extent possible; of course I do crop where it is necessary.

If we give stress to Google Maps, then, you are advised not to Edit or modify too much, as per the Google policy.

Technically, your post is well appreciated…

However using 3 Apps is a great time consuming affair… Right?

Appreciate your achievements and Level 8 … congratulations.

Regards with greetings from Bangalore.

Hi @AjaykumarG conect is not for promotions , you are just promoting or marketing Snapseed , we having so much options in Google photo to Edit photo , and strongly i not recommend that map photo should be edited , because it will affect quality or misguided users through edited photo so I am in not favour of editing photo before posting on map , yes slightly we can edit for personal information or faces but not more .

You are writing good :+1: And become more accurate but avoid such things to before posting may you are right but what I think I shared with you .

@TravellerG Sir.

Thank you so much for your kind words and feedback  , sir! I truly appreciate your insights. When it comes to Google Maps, rest assured that I never upload edited images. What I share there is exactly what I capture with my phone—completely genuine and une. I only edit images in my free time, more as a hobby. I’ve been contributing to Google Maps for 10 years now, and your appreciation means a lot to me. Thank you once again for your thoughtful feedback, sir! Warm regards from my side as well.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful feedback, sir. I completely understand your concerns and truly appreciate your perspective. I fully agree that photos on Google Maps should remain unedited to maintain authenticity and avoid misleading users. Like you, I believe in keeping images as genuine as possible for the best user experience. I only edit photos in my free time as a hobby, and never before uploading them to Google Maps. I also want to clarify that Snapseed is a Google product, but I simply enjoy discussing tools for personal use, not promotion. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts, sir! Your feedback is always valuable to me.

Snapseed is indeed an interesting tool, @AjaykumarG , and it can be helpful if used with moderation, as mentioned by @TravellerG and @Annaelisa .

In Connect you can find already several post about this App. The one that I want to mention is the one written by a Googler: How to edit your photos using Snapseed .

However improving the quality of the photos is only one of the elements that should be considered by a Local Guide.

There are many other aspects that in your contributions you seem to forget:

  • Not posting photos of addresses or coordinates
  • Not posting the same photo in more than one listing
  • Avoiding to post photos that are not showing the location

All the rules mentioned above can end in the removal from the Local Guides program, so I suggest you to deeply review your contributions

Good luck

@ErmesT Sir, Thank you for your thoughtful feedback and for sharing the post about Snapseed. I agree with you, @TravellerG Sir and @Annaelisa, that moderation is key when editing photos.

I appreciate your reminders about the guidelines, I didn’t realize the importance of these points before—I used to focus only on photo quality. Now, thanks to you, I understand the bigger picture and will avoid making those mistakes in the future.

Your advice is invaluable, and I’ll review my contributions carefully moving forward. Thanks again for your guidance!

Best regards,
Ajaykumar G

Thank you @AjaykumarG

You have no idea about how many former Local Guides said the same: “will avoid making those mistakes in the future”.

Also the past need to be fixed.

As you can read in Add, remove & share photos or videos in Google MapsYou can’t add photos or videos to addresses or coordinates.”. It means that you can add photos only in Listings where there is a “Add Photo” button.

A lot of your photos are added to villages, and this is a big no.

In addition you should read the Community policy :

  • “Take photos that clearly and accurately represent a location …**”
  • “Dark, blurry, and redundant photos will be removed. Users who duplicate photos across locations, … will also be removed.”

That’s why I said “former” Local Guides

Good luck

Hi @AjaykumarG

I’m a bit concerned that you might not be aware of the fact that photos to be uploaded to Google Maps can not be manipulated more that what is described as Minimal changes.

I believe that all your 5 photo examples are overly manipulated and violate this guideline.

I discussed this aspect in this post:

https://www.localguidesconnect.com/t5/General-Discussion/Make-your-photos-pop-Let-s-discuss/m-p/3592758

But I very much agree that we should improve our photos prior to uploading them to Maps as discussed here.

Cheers
