Two alike fruits: Santol and Mangosteen

Hi my friends,

I believe some of you have seen these fruits I am going to show you. I would like to introduce two fruits that are love to local people. They are known to be grown locally. They have different health benefits but local people love them both. I love mangosteen more. It is easy to eat.

Why I brought up the two? The inside can be confusing but the taste is completely different. Mangosteen is sweet but Santol is sour.

Check them out here!

  • Mangosteen [Garcinia mangostana], also known as the purple mangosteen, is a tropical evergreen tree, native to tropical lands surrounding the Indian Ocean. We don’t know its origin as it is widespread prehistoric cultivation. They are grown in Cambodia and the harvesting time is in April or early May. It is a sweet fruit.

  • Santol [****Sandoricum koetjape], also known as the sentul or cotton fruit, is a tropical fruit native to Southeast Asia. It is grown widely in Cambodia and is harvested all year long. The tree is big. It is mostly sour, sometimes you meet with a sweet one too. They are perfect for afternoon snacks. Many people eat them buy soaking the internal flesh with salt, chilli and sugar. After sometimes, you can eat them.

By seeing the photo I thought it was a fig @Sophia_Cambodia . But after reading the description I found my first idea was wrong it. Unfortunately, I have never seen this fruit in Bangladesh before. But, it may found in our hilly areas, I am not sure though. Thanks a lot for tagging me, thanks a lot for sharing this nice post. Stay safe.

Ah, I see @MukulR it is completely different here. Fig is not very common even we have it. Santol is very common. You would find the tree in many places. The fruit is not very expensive too. It is like 2$ per kilo.

Do you have a game using Mangosteen from your childhood.

Yes, guessing how many part of the fruit instide the mangosteen. 3 , 4 or five?

Well, we don’t have that game @BudiFXW I only knew it when I got older because it came from the city. We lived at the countryside and we don’t know :slightly_smiling_face:
