Ways to make Maps contributions helpful to the LGBTQ+ community around us !

As Local Guides, we always love to help people around us and in our community. As an individual, I believe that ‘Love is Love’ and “One should not be judged on the basis of who they are or who they love !” The month of June is celebrated as ‘Pride Month’ and events are held around the world to honor the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) community. If you wish to learn more about the Pride community, check out this postby @AdrianLunsong .

Let us look at some of the amazing features of Maps which we can use to support and make the lives of those belonging to the LGBTQ+ community safe and stress-free, be it for solo-travelling , travelling with their partners ,knowing LGBTQ+ friendly places, enjoying an experience, etc.

  1. Locate places that are LGBTQ+ friendly on Maps (You can easily search them on Maps App : Just type ‘LGBTQ friendly’ and you will see a list of places near you )

  2. Add Photos, ratings and detailed reviews with highlights on useful features for the LGBTQ+ community

  3. Do Map edits for LGBTQ friendly places to keep them updated on Maps.

  4. Create Lists showing LGBTQ+ friendly places

  5. Along with Accessibility features, also mention if the place is transgender safe or if they have gender-neutral washrooms.

  6. Locate places offering virtual classes or book an experience specially for the Pride community

  7. Support LGBTQ+ owned businesses or add/update their business listing on Maps

If you have any other ways to support the Pride community using Maps, do share in the comments below !
Let’s be kind and respect everyone around us , no matter who they are or who they love !
